rap

Rap is a music genre. Its hated by many people that believe in the stereo type that only blacks make rap and its always about shooting cops, drugs, money and sex. Which leads to another stereo type that says all blacks like rap...
1.Not all blacks like rap.
2.Rap's not only for Blacks.
3.Not all rap is about money drugs and sex...
4.Not all people who like rap are black
People who don't like rap, usually say
"Rap is crap that has artists like 50 Cent."
These are people who know nothing about rap, and judge it by what they see on TV.
If you REALLY know what rap is then you'd know 50 Cent sucks balls and isn't a good rapper at all.See the people who like rap, and actually understand rap know 50 Cent is not a good rapper.Rap is poetry, despite what any other person says. Rap is like poetry with attitude, poetry with a bit of gangsterism. Look at Mos Def. That is a real rapper. Somebody like 50 Cent or Cassidy has nothing on somebody like Mos Def.
Most people say that rap degrades women. I don't really think so, because people need to realize..
A bitch is a bitch.
A hoe is a hoe.
A whore is a whore.
And a lady is a lady.
Rap has something called a beat to it, something that sounds catchy and something you can dance to.For instance Tupac's California Love is something you can dance to. And anybody that tries to say thats not a good song...well isnt there a rock song that goes "I've got 2 tickets to paradise, pack your bags we'll leave tonight."
Some people say rap is senseless and doesnt talk about anything.
Wake up people thats what music is.
The ability to say express yourself, and it just so happens rap expresses itself more than others. And anybody who doesn't like rap, thats fine, but dont talk shit about it when you don't even know about it.

I've said enough above...

Rap

Ok, this is my opinion, so if it offends you, stop reading. Rock is my favorite type of music. Hard, Classic, Metal, Punk, I like rock. I used to listen to rap, so don't say that I've only listened to 2 minutes of a song. Now, I think that rap is NOT crappy music with gangstas whining about poverty. There are good rappers like Eminem, 2pac, Jay-Z, you know. They had some bad songs, but they were good. Some bad rappers (IMO) are Nelly, Snoop Dogg, and 50-cent, that crap on MTV. Rappers ARE talented, it isn't easy to rhyme that fast still keeping rhythm and writing those songs. I'm sorry that all you rap fans have to suffer through these idiots insulting your music. BUT, a few of these guys started insulting rock. I just wanted to clear up a few things. People screaming at the top of their lungs and smashing guitars are not examples of rock. That's a stereotype too. I don't see why needing the whole band to play music is a bad thing when rappers just need themselves. And, when I say rock I mean good rock (again IMO). Bands like AC/DC, Led Zep, Guns N' Roses, Hendrix, and Aerosmith. Not bands like Slipknot (No offense to you people who enjoy listening to Slipknot). So, sorry for you rap fans out there, just wanted to clear some stuff up.

Guy1: rap sucks
Guy2: no it doesn't
GUy3: yeah well rock sucks too
Guy4: shut up

Rap

A form of music that has so much potential to be good, but due to complete lack of creativity is kinda sucky. Ever since The Millenium hit and Diddy introduced glitter suits, rap consists mostly of rapping about money, possessions or the number of "bad bitches" that one can corral depending on the quality of said bitch. Most people tend to hate rap because of the above reason, but sometimes they should consider where most rappers come from. If you are raised in poverty for most of your young life and suddenly become rich and can have anything you've ever wanted, you'd also be pretty damn eager to showboat. Sometimes you can't blame a rapper for wanting to celebrate his success but it is very understandable that one can be annoyed when almost every rapper does it ALL THE TIME. To me, a rappers first album is usually ok (unless you are Soulja Boy) because there is a lot of truth behind what they say regardless if you like their message or not. But a few years and albums later they will still be talking about what they did "back then" as opposed to what they do "now". Image plays a large role in that. Once again, there's not much to go around in the ghetto, so people will look up to you if you have money and cars and all that. Unfortunately, the people that get the majority of the money are drug dealers and such. All the youngsters see that and envy it even though it's wrong because they want to be respected and have something to feel good about. In addition they've grown up with an aggressive mentality because that's the only way they feel like they can get what they want and keep what they have. After all fear is one of the easiest ways for people to "respect" you. Rappers try their darndest to uphold that "gangsta/drug dealer image because at one point in time it was the only reason that everyone around them envied and revered them. If they were to change their image, no one in any hood would have that same respect for them anymore. Even though a rapper is successful and rich, he still going to have the want to feel acceptance from the people that he was like for the majority of his life. So even though he gets older, he never appears to mature in his music or in just about any other area of life. Another reason that rap is in the state it is right now is because of love for money over music. Your typical rapper LOVES money because of the above poverty reason, and how do you make money? BY APPEALING TO THE EAR OF THE PEOPLE. Unfortunately, "Rich-Hop, Club-Hop, and Hip-Pop" are the only things that a lot of kids wanna hear right now because kids this generation are pretty much all about materialism and fun and anything else that requires minimal thinking to enjoy. Just like any other typical American, a rapper is going to do the thing that gets him more money. In this case it is making club bangers, making a dance, and trying to sing using autotunes. That's also why so many rappers do the same things. They see that an new idea or catchy phrase another rapper thought of worked and they want to cash out too, so they don't take the time to be creative, they just bite the other rapper's idea. It's sad because a current day rapper could choose to make some intelligent music but money is a little more important to them and the execs that own T.V. and radio stations. Since they have already made up their mind about what they want to put out, the only way that rap can recover is for the common people to change their tastes. IF YOU WANT GOOD MUSIC, YOU HAVE CHALLENGE A RAPPER TO STEP HIS GAME UP. All of this is just guess work, but think I'm somewhere in the ballpark.

I listen to rap more for the melody than the message nowadays.

An excuse for people to complain, and tell the world that their life is harder than everyone else's, even though they have million dollar homes and expensive cars to go home to.
