This group (notice I didn't use the word 'individuals') is mostly characterized by kids from middle school to high school age. Emo kids are very rarely adults because if your still enough of a pussy to be emo when you're 20, you actually kill yourself when you start to realize that you had no idea what depression(or 'the deep black emptiness thats raping my withered soul' for translation purposes) really is.
The second largest characterization is by their dress-code, taste in media (notice I didn't say art. See porn if you want art) and writing poetry with all the same literary devices and genre. The music is usually made by someone who has managed to get rich off of being the most pathetic people the fad has to offer(raise a glass if you see them). They seem to think that dressing exactly the same(black everything so don't bother with your high beams) is also a sign of individuality (See individuality). Their clothes are all purchased, or scavenged, from patronizing all the same places: garbage bins, wal-mart lost and found, thrift stores, Hot Topic, and gratuitously burglarizing the storage buildings of pop stars from the 80's.
Finally, the third largest characterization is the insistence on being known as an individual whilst being part of the largest fad in recent history. Most of these children would say that they are individuals because they do what they want when they want. The fault in this logic is that everyone in America does the exact same thing. I highly doubt most of America's youth is still being dressed by their parents and are deprived of choice. They get uppity about getting called goth as well (if you ripped off the culture of an entire group of people that are just as stupid just because you where to scared to be as hardcore as they were, would you want somebody bringing that up all the time?). In effect, all anybody manages to do being an 'emo kid' is to subject yourself to ridicule, dress like a moron, and most likely end up with a head full of regret later on in life about how stupid you were to make out with a member of the same sex just to be seen as 'cool'.
They usually are found to frequent malls(a pop-culture hub oddly enough), MySpace and/or Face Book. Their pictures are from a 45 degree angle above their face. (See money shot)

gay little posers that love attention. say they dont and then cry and tell all their little depressing friends about how their life sucks. i think they secretly have contests for whos the most emolishous. stupid hyper girls often find them hot, before they mature. im sorry, grow up. their skinny little boys and fat little girls. i mean BIG girls. they need to stop being attention whores and kill themselvess like their always threatening to. notice its never emo MEN or even GUYS, or emo WOMEN. emo kids and emos, or emo children, because its like five year old fighting over a toy.

One who purposely dresses differently, simply for the sake of being different, but without the actual understanding of real individuality.

Emo kids TRY to be unique, but are a uniform society. They all look the same, they sound the same, they dress the same, they listen to the same music. It's a homogeneous blend, if you will, of stupid teenagers attempting to be unique while falling into the very stereotypes they are trying to rebel from.

1) The only people who would give the defenitions of emology and emologist thumbs down, because they know its true and they're ashamed.

and the ones that show it off are doing it for a cry for help or are posers people who are emo because they think its cool a real emo is an emo because they are emo. real emos arnt all depressing or hate life they are ussualy all right people. emos ussualy dont admit to being emo but dont deniy it. they dont go to hot topic for all their clothes but dont deniy shoping their. they are rebelious ecause they belive about wat they are rebeling against. emos all hav their own fashion and dont care wat other people say. people who say thing like emos slit them self are sum chav or jock following the crowd and dont know an emo personaly.

(negative connotation):A Robert Smith wanna-be, most of whom have probably never even heard of the Cure nor do most understand the meaning of his lyrics. Many often complain about how dark and depressing life is, living in the suburbs with mommy and daddy all the while. Also common to emo kids is a feigned interest in all things deep, dark and meaningful. Nor do most know that true emo originated in the 80's, although not by name, and NOT because it was considered to be cool.
Real emo kids don't hang out at the mall.
