Rock Band

Annoying the hell out of neighbors since 2007.

Does the guy next door playing Rock Band really think he can sing because it just sounds like someone is dying over there. And the drums... oh the drums... Can someone just shoot me in the face and end it already?

Band Hall

The most awesome place in the universe. Band geeks live here. They eat, sleep, and change their clothes, play instruments, sing show music, and talk about marching band. Some making out is inevitable. Band lockers line the walls filled with hacky sacks, water bottles, spare clothes, food, instruments, sun block, music, awesome socks, and everything else necessary for life as a band geek. Most band geeks will spend around an hour here before and after school. It is the highlight of their social life.

Mom: Why do you get to school an hour before it starts?
Band Geek: I have to play hacky sack, hit some drummers, and hang with my section in the band hall! Duh

Band Geek 1: Where are your pants?
Band Geek 2: I don't know, I took them off a while ago to change and forgot what I was doing when I joined an epic voice rendition of the show.
Band Geek 1: Wow. That is a fail so epic it is almost a win.

Band kid

Also known as the Reddit kid, band kids are defined by an obsession with Reddit, Pewdiepie, and gaming (particularly PC gaming and Nintendo switch), strange and awkward mannerisms, and a tendency to make weird poses, talk fast, and regurgitate old memes. They tend to also like anime and anime-related things (such as Pokemon games), and likely have an anime profile picture on their social networking accounts. Band kids are likely active on Discord and are often moderators on there and/or Reddit. They frequent r/pewdiepiesubmissions and r/dankmemes, and look down on those who use Instagram and TikTok as β€œnormies.” This culture is common amongst kids in high school marching band (hence the name) but it is not limited to them. Band kid/Reddit kid culture may overlap with weeb culture and neckbeard culture, and is prominent amongst individuals beyond high school age. Think of the band kid as the neckbeard when they were in high school. Everyone knows at least 4 of these kids from high school.

Band kid 1: I just donated 500 dollars from my mom’s credit card to pokimane! keanu chungus wholesome 100 See you at band tomorrow!

Band kid 2: I can’t make it tomorrow big oof I’m gonna be busy playing Smash Bros on my Nintendo switch epic gamer moment Do you think my cat is big enough for r/chonkers?

Band kid 1: bruh of course, you’ll be raking in the karma with that one soviet union national anthem

Tool (band)

An alternative/progressive metal band started in Los Angeles in 1990. Easily identifiable by their rough, complex, bass-driven rythms, as well as the vocals and complex, deep lyrics of frontman Maynard James Keenan.

Their first two albums, Opiate and Undertow, dabbled in alternative metal, post-metal, and even grunge influences. Their later albums, Γ†nima, Lateralus, and 10,000 Days, are progressive/art rock influenced. The band spans several genres and is one of the most influential metal bands in recent memory.

Often called the inspiration of the nu-metal genre, an enormous disrespect to Tool. When Tool was formed, they were one of the first alternative metal bands. Today, countless nu-metal bands copy this style and attitude, and all list Tool as their primary influence, despite only taking in the surface noise and angst from Tool and none of their depth, complexity, or talent. This mockery came to a climax when shitcore band Limp Bizkit did a cover of Opiate in concert, which was full of whines and lyrical mishaps. Worst of all, the 6-minute song was condensed to a 2-minute rap.
Tool's masterpieces include the songs; H., Forty-Six and 2, Eulogy, Sober, Jambi, Prison Sex, Opiate, Pushit, a cover of Led Zeppelin's classic No Quarter.

Guy 1: Dude you should listen to KoRn. They're the ultimate alternative metal band, they're totally original and angsty. They're my favorite band ever.

Guy 2: No man, you should check out Tool. They pioneered the post/alternative metal sound, and they are way more talented and they have way more depth and sincerity, and unlike KoRn, was not created as a manufactured product of pop culture.

Guy 1: No way man, KoRn is the ultimate modern metal band.

Guy 2: -hands guy 1 a copy of Tool's 2nd album, "Undertow", saving guy 1's dignity-
