A colloquially and loosely defined sub-genre of mainstream alternative/indie rock that is popular among people who range in age from 28 to 49 that are apart of gentrification movements in communities that disparage and displace working class citizens. Bands that encompass the gent rock sub-genre are the the following, but not limited to: Dave Matthews Band, Iron and Wine, Band of Horses, Arcade Fire, the Bad Suns, and bands/musicians who cover Wagon Wheel at a local dive bar during open mic night
Person 1: "Hey dude, do you want to go downtown tonight to see that jam band everybody in town is talking about?"
Person 2: "Nah. I'm good. I think I will just stay here at my neighborhood dive bar tonight and drink Hamm's. I'm not a big fan of gent rock anyway and I don't feel like hanging around a bunch of yuppies who think they know everything there is to know about craft beer while bragging about how much money their parents give them."
Person 1: "Yeah dude, good call. Those people gent-terrify the crap outta me anyway."

Person: "Those gents and their gent rock. I am not a big fan of Dave Matthews Band, but the gents sure are! I am more of a metal kind of guy. These gents are pricing me out of town, which is too bad, because I like it here in Boulder. I think I might move back up to Billings where I can afford to live and be around people like me who are not so yuppie. People in Billings don't judge me for drinking Hamm's and listening to metal."

Punk Rock: A Style of music played by the working class for the working class , a style of dress that is meant to represent ones personal beliefs and moral standard meant to identify themselves in order to attract those like minded. That is punk rock. Punk Rock as a style of dress without a belief is a poser, a Poser: A person who dresses in assosiation of a group of people but does not understand the culture or beliefs .A Punk Rocker Will Fight You Rvem When They Know There In For A Beatdown. A poser will talk their way out of stuff, Call the Cops Or Pretend That they are above a fist fight when they are scared. Only Those within their own genres can tell those who don’t belong. A sub-genre of rock in which the and music lyrics are about sleeping with another man’s girl while he is none the wiser.
Notable mentions include songs like Jessie’s Girl and Scotty Doesn’t Know.

a made-up categorization, term and catchword for multiple rock genres like psychedelic rock, experimental rock, prog rock, post-rock, space rock, art rock etc. (the same applies to metal genres) that tend to be more complex and diverse both lyrically, musically and technically than most genres of mainstream music, the lyrics tend to be more sophisticated and than your average pop song and common themes include:
philosophy, social criticism, psychology, politics, spirituality, poetry.
Although it is not uncommon for songs of these genres to be instrumental, as they are letting the music itself tell the story rather than vocals.
the music itself is more complex technically and longer and tends to focus more on the ambience (timbre) and technicality of the piece, rather than instrumentation and melody, although some genres are also known for being melodically and/or harmonically complex. Since this music is not intended to be mainstream, most of its listeners are a niche audience. So although "smart rock" is very good, not many people know it since it's usually anti-mainstream, but nonetheless it's still good music.
Although there are differences between those genres, the one similarity is that they all lean on experimentation and inventiveness.
Bands that could potentially fall into this categorization are bands like:
Tool, pink floyd, the doors, king crimson, porcupine tree, rush, radiohead, etc.
