No, it does not mean a person who joined the fandom all late or only enjoys certain songs of a band/artist. A fake fan is someone who:
- Is only in the fandom for the ships and hates or attacks other fans who have opposing ships and usually start shipwars
- Threatens, harrasses, or bothers the creators and/or actors of their fandom
- Berates fanartists and fanfic writers for tiny mistakes in their artwork or writings
- Calls out other fans for being fake in an immature or inappropriate way
- Harrasses cosplayers, either in a sexual, abusive, or "friendly" way without the consent of cosplayer
- Often says that they are dating or married to their favorite person in the fandom and will hurt or harrass people who like the same person or the person's significant other
- Harrasses others who do not like their fandom instead of minding their own goddamn business and let others like what they like
Person 1: I just started to get into Twenty One Pilots, their new album Trench is so good!
Person 2: Wow, you're such a fake fan, you haven't even listened to their old songs yet..
Person 1: Well I just started.
Person 2: SO WHAT!? You are not a real fan if you JUST started!

An ardent music enthusiast; one who loves music, has a large CD (and possibly vinyl LP) collection, and attends live performances at every opportunity, often on very short notice. Willing to travel great distances to catch a show, and frequently will attend the same concert on consecutive nights. The uber fan is not tied to any one genre (ie: rock and roll, country, rap etc.) or artist (ie: Train, Elton John, Lil Wayne) but rather prefers to enjoy a wide variety of music, all of which can be found on an ipod that is never far from reach. One cannot, however, be an "uber fan" of opera, or classical music. The uber fan does not perform sexual favors, (see groupie), but instead believes it is the artists and performers themselves who are fortunate to have such loyal followers. The uber fan mantra: "shut up and sing".
Usage example: Christy is an uber fan of Train and has attended many of their live shows.
Wrong example: Pavarotti has many uber fans.

Some one who follows a big name sporting team only because that team does so well they have no connection or loyalty to that team nor do they reside or come from that teams local area

Guy :"Ronaldo hasn't played for United for 3 years now you idiot"
