Cadets usually aged 12-18, some up to the age of 21 can join the Civil Air Patrol and choose from a wide variety of activities. A very rewarding, yet draws negative attention by some idiots.
There are three kinds of cadets;
1.) Those who actually sit and learn about the values of leadership and aerospace power. These cadets usually end up earning prestigious awards and will become military and business leaders of the next generation.
2.) Those who kind of just do nothing and have no idea why they're there. These cadets quit after the first 1-2 years.
3.) Those idiots who buy tactical gear and Kevlar with their parents money, dressing themselves up like an Air Force Pararescueman or an Army Green Beret and act hardcore when they've probably never even shot anything more powerful than a BB gun. Cocky, yet extremely insecure. See also: poser
Take off that tactical gear dumbass, you're not in the military, just a Civil Air Patrol Cadet.

a horrible disease that causes cadets of both virginia tech, texas a&m and all the service academy to break out in invisible hives which prevents them from maintaining a normal conversation with a member of the opposite sex who is not a cadet, generally making the other person feel as though the cadet is incapable of social interaction and is very awkward.

The L98 A1 cadet gp rifle is not a scaled down version of the army's SA80 it is an SA80. Its has exactly the same dimentions. SA80 was a weapons programme, small arms for the 80's.
The L98A1 is simply a L85, or SA80 as it is commonly known, with the gas parts and change leaver removed and a cocking arm fitted.
It fires the standard nato 5.56mm round and holds 30, the same as the army, in a curved magazine.

The new, improved version of the L98A1 Cadet GP Rifle. Semi automatic with left-hand operated cocking handle. Doesnt jam like the A1 but in my opinion less accurate. Gradually being issued to CCF's in the UK this year (2009).

Literally the most stressful place on Earth. A place to meet friends, loved ones, and mortal enemies. A place that may seem nice and cheery on the outside, but in reality, it's a hellhole with no coordination or proper planning.
my friend: Hey, do you wanna do something on Saturday?
me: Sorry, I have cadets.
my friend: I hope you come back in one piece.
me: Thanks but I won't.

The L98A1 Cadet general purpose rifle is the standard bolt action fire arm of British cadet forces. It is design based on the L85A1 (the individual weapon version of the SA80 system). Fires 5.56mm Nato standard Ammunition. Has a muzzle velocity of 940m/s. It is destinguishable from the L85A1 (and A2) by the larger cocking lever and the lack of a flach suppressor and gas parts. very reliable and accurate.
