A word first mentioned by Binary Star as popular hip-hop music. Namely, Mtv rap songs such as anything produced by Puff Daddy since biggies demise, Ja Rule, 50cent, Eminem, etc...

50cent is a manufactured rapper, complete with his own clothing-line. He is the definition of hip-pop.

Hip-Hop music which achieves mainstream success and popularity. Generally not particularly good, however some Hip-Hop songs are popular because they are actually good.

- Tragically, more people own 'I Am...' than 'Illmatic'.

+ 99 Problems was a popular song, but also very good.

+ Black Eyed Peas' first album, 'Elephunk' was good hip-pop, because they actually made songs about real issues.

Hipster who is more into hip-hop (The Cool Kids, Spank Rock, A.T.C.Q) than indie rock/electronica. And who's style is a mix of old school 80's with typical hipster staples. Might be seen skating around with their ironic basketball hat.

drake lil wayne and whole bunch of mainstream fools now a days need to label them selfs hip pop..defari, murs, dialated peoples, psycho realm, pharcyde, hyro, souls of mischief, nas, gangstar, the old common, old mobbdeep, roots, slum village, quasimoto, atmosphier, and most true hip hop artist that started flowing in the 80's from when they were lil kids to now, keeping it real beats & lyrics are the real hip hop artist. many i forgot but you get the picture

a music style created in the late seventies.what was once a cool underground movement has now mutated into corporate sexist garbage. the hip hop "artists" are more concerned about making money through image, trendy clothing styles and heavy commercialization. Not all but MOST do not care so much about making good music only to be rich and and fanous. They achieve multi platinum albums through their image and being heaviy promoted and not from musical content. hip hop is nearly dead. It has lost almost all of its aesthetics because people are doing it to be trendy. one day there will be an artist (from rock rap or even reggaeton) that will deystroy this garbage on Mtv.

My thoughts on hip hop: all killer but no filler (great sales but no musical content)
