rape

Originally, the word rape was akin to rapine, rapture, raptor, and rapacious, and referred to the more general violations, such as looting, destruction, and capture of citizens that are inflicted upon a town or country during war, eg. the Rape of Nanking. Today, some dictionaries still define rape to include any serious and destructive assault against a person or community.

English rape was in use since the 14th century in the general sense of "seize prey, take by force," from raper, an Old French legal term for "to seize", in turn from Latin rapere "seize, carry off by force, abduct". The Latin term was also used for sexual violation, but only very rarely. The legendary event known as the "Rape of the Sabine Women", while ultimately motivated sexually, did not entail sexual violation of the Sabine women on the spot, who were rather abducted, and then implored by the Romans to marry them (as opposed to striking a deal with their fathers or brothers first, as would have been required by law).

Though the sexual connotation is today dominant, the word "rape" can be used in non-sexual context in literary English. In "the rape of the Silmarils" in J. R. R. Tolkien's "The Silmarillion", the word "rape" is used with its old meaning of "seizing and taking away". In Alexander Pope's The Rape of the Lock, the word "rape" is used hyperbolically, exaggerating a trivial violation against a person. Compare also the adjective rapacious which retains the generic meaning.

Sometimes, the word rape is used colloquially to dysphemistically describe forms of non-sexual unwelcome conduct, or metaphorically referring to environmental destruction, possibly implying a female gender of the Earth (Gaia). Other than in literary usage discussed above, this use of the term is unrelated to the original sense of "abduction" or "carrying off" and implies a comparison with sexual violation. In "The Rape of Nanking" actual mass rape and mass murder is summarized by naming the city as the object of the rape.

rape

A very bad crime in the real world, refers to forcing sex upon someone.

On any online game however, the meaning is changed from something completely different. It's interesting that one of the #1 internet insults is to attack someone's sexuality. But raped can be used in any sense, and will never, EVER be used by the rapee to accuse the rapist of being gay.

Word of warning, don't try and challenge that either...

Example 1.
Rapist: *Headshots someone 8 consecutive matches with

a glock in counter-strike* "Dude, you just got raped!"

Rapee: "Sadface"

Example 2.
soon-to-be rapee: "It's team rockets on valhala, and

all the noobs on my team quit. I'm about to get

raped"

rape

To override another human being’s basic human right to his or her own body by using a sexual means.

Technically rape can mean vaginal, anal or oral sex forced on another. Recently finger, tongue or foreign object in the vagina or anus has also been classified as rape.

If a woman has been raped by a man it is likely she cannot understand why any women have the desire to repeat the acts she was forced to endure.
Often men and women who are raped will try to hide the fact and have extreme difficulties adapting to life following the rape. Some can readjust to life sooner than others depending on whether or not anything happens to the rapist as a punishment to bring justice to the victim. The support network and level of understanding from those closest to victim is also crucial.

If vaginally raped, the woman may not like this part of herself anymore and take steps ie. Chastity belt to prevent this from happening again.

If orally raped by a man it can be very complicated because oral sex is typically about pleasing a man and used as a degrading term in society with insults such as β€œyou suck” and references to the act in rap music and so on. Oral sex could be seen as an arrogant expectation men have of women. As an act of submission on the women’s behalf and an objectifying way of putting oneself though something humiliating at no benefit for the woman, to relieve the man of a simple desire. Like an object. If a woman is forced into and humiliated in an oral rape act it would be very difficult for her to make friends with girls knowing they choose to do this and knowing most men have the desire to have the act performed on them.

To be anally raped falls into a similar context to oral rape. It is seen as something embarrassing and joked about in society. This can be very upsetting for the victim if he or she is constantly reminded of the rape. There is a sense of embarrassment, isolation and helplessness and the victim will often feel very lonely.
