A style of music geared towards pretentious university/college idiots who think they are hip and original by listening to boring, snoozeville music. Many of the individuals who listen to this music feel they are superior in intellect to others. If you dog their music, they will just tell you that you don't get it and that your mind is too small to understand. Most indie scensters are snobbish and think that they are some type of musical elite. The reality is, college kids get sucked into this music because they feel they are finding a new identity that makes them different than the other "brainwashed, money humping, corporate idiots" because they really can't define themselves as a person.
Indie dude1: "Hey man. I saw Matt Pond PA the iother day. It was awesome."
Indie dude 2: "Yeah man. Matt's lyrics are so genius; they're almost counter-cultural."
A normal, sane person: "Indie music is boring and retarded. You all are just college snobs looking for an identity because you have none and no personality!"
Both indie dudes: "He just doesn't understand man! His mind needs to be freed."

Indie is you, your innate nature and personality, without the corruption of the world. It is not getting influenced by anyone around you and not caring about what other people's impressions are of you. Indie is originality.
Indie is what God made you to be, right from the beginning of time.

Not a very noble pursuit at all; living every breathing moment to go against the "mainstream." The major flaw in this logic is that in trying so hard to go against the mainstream, indie kids act according to what everyone else is doing. Your not very hip when everything you do results in stooping to the level of the so-called mainstream that you feel so superior to.
Indie Kid: "My music is better than yours, I make my own clothing, I'm a spiteful little bitch, and other such bullshit..."

The popular new buzzword describing slightly off-beat music and movies that cost less than 4 million dollars (but generally more than 1) to make regardless of whether or not the album or film in question is independent of anything. See also Alternative.
And idiot would consider the films Garden State, Adaptation, or Sideways to be "indie." That idiot might also stupidly assume The Killers, Radiohead, or The Pixies to be "indie."

stands for independent, accociated with the scene which is a bunch of people who think they are cooler than one another. either a type of music or a type of label given to a person. Indie people never call themeselves indie or there not indie, there posers even though everyone already is one besides the first person who listened to an indie band which is usally there mom. yes the bands mom is more indie then you, im sorry.

Indie is the most boring version of rock ever to been played throughout Europe.
Indie-fans mostly wear second hand clothes and weird army caps.
they also tend to dance by simply going a step forth and then a step back, repeating the whole process for about 8 hours, or untill their club closes.
While still being just some spoiled middle-/upper-class-kids, they think of themselfes as being different of any other consumers (which they are not).
People who Listen to indie are always of caucasian background. there has never been any asian, african, southamerican Indie-fan or Indiegroup.
Indie-fans only like music that is the washed out and never contains anything more then the Amaj Cmaj Gmin Dmin Emin chords, or a slight deviation of those chords
If Indie were Food it would be a soup cooked just with water and flour with neither spices nor salt, also someon wood have spitted in that soup....
They Whole Indie Music focusses on music that takes all energy out of Rock leaving you with a boring -completly paralyzed brother of rock and roll
Bottom line INdie is mucialy speaking the most boring stuff on the world
just ask the kids who always look down on you and look like they have eaten a whole package of sleeping pills and find everything cute what they listen to
and u get a good picture of waht indie is
