Party Guard

"Party Guard" was the name of a popular social society made up of young Boston College graduates living in Boston's North End in the early 1990's. The group experienced several years of growth after the success of its four year run of twice weekly pre-parties and popular "late nights".

Party Guard gained some local notoriety when its t-shirt giveaway became seemingly "too" popular. The official-looking white shirt was emblazoned with a large red cross. Accompanied by "Party Guard" in bold lettering and the tagline "Party First, Safety Last" upset safety advocates and off-duty lifeguards when a large group of partiers were spotted wearing the shirts on a family beach on Boston's North Shore in 1994. Critics had argued that the shirts conveyed an "irresponsible" message and could confuse those in need of water rescue.

Membership waned after this criticism, but its ultimate disbanding was due to its members aging out with several moving from the Boston area. The founder, Gilly (full name redacted), currently lives with his wife and two children outside of Philadelphia, PA.

The Party Guard phenomenon blurred the line between revelry and water safety.

Pop Party

An alcohol-free event. Pop is the drink being served instead of alcohol. Kids who are straight-edge have these kind of parties, along with normal kids when their parents are around and they aren't allowed to drink.

"Man, do you think we should go to that party at Ross' house tonight?" - Person A
"No, that's gonna be a pop party, lets go to James' party instead"- Person B

Party Bandit

A person who attends a party which they initially had no intention of attending, possibly due to a lack lustre male-female ratio, or simply the disgusting and un-entertaining nature of fellow party attendees.

The Bandit will attend the party, but not out of good will towards the host, but rather, to get highly intoxicated to the stage of obnoxiousness. The aim of the party bandit is to switch the entire focus of the party to their drunken antics, rather than the party host.

Did you see John Party Bandit the shit out of the party tonight, I can't even remember whose party it was.

crash the party

Attend a party without being invited. You just show up. It may be a party thrown by someone you know or a complete strangers house. Sometimes people don't mind that you came to their party, but sometimes, your presence will be unwelcome and you may be asked to leave. The fun of it is you don't know until you get there what the reaction will be. If you crash the party, be ready to accept the consequences.

Dude, there is a jamming party down the street! Let's go crash the party!
