Pseudo-Sarcasm

A statement, when made, that is meant to be interpreted as sarcasm, when actually, it is not.

After coming out of my bosses office with a raise instead of the ass-chewing that I expected, I announced, "Man, I LOVE my job"... Everyone thought I was being sarcastic, when in fact, I was using pseudo-sarcasm.

dripping sarcasm

Sarcasm that is so obvious that it "overflows" the sarcasm bowl, hence dripping.

The feds didn't process the dripping sarcasm in Jake's pro-Terrorism speech and he got 40 years in prison for it.

texting sarcasm

A notation used to signal the use of sarcasm in a text, instant, or various mobile device message. Often used to eliminate confusion and arguments caused by texting misinterpretations.

The generally accepted practice includes adding an "s" directly following or close to the ending punctuation of the message.

"I would have done her too if I was in your situation. S"
"Sweet sweater vest there chief! s"

American Sarcasm

The use of the 'not' joke. Primarily an American idea, the 'not' joke is American sarcasm at its finest.

The lack of sincerity in sarcasm is usually conveyed through tone of voice, but with Americans and their famed linearity of thought, sarcasm often escapes them. Therefore, to make their statement seem sarcastic, they overtly announce it so, by sharply adding 'not' on the end.

Painfully guilty of 'Don't Explain the Joke.'

Group of people eating a meal:
"Wow, this food tastes great...not!"
"Why did you say 'not'?"
"Kelly over there's a yank. Had to slip in some American Sarcasm so she'd get it."
