pop music

Contrary to popular belief (above) pop music is not short for Lollypop music but Popular music. Pop Music = Popular Music, basically rendering a lot of "alternative music" IE Nirvana, to be Pop, and a lot of rock music like the beatles (or nirvana) to not only be rock music, but also pop music. Sorry people.

"pop" is deemed to mean more than popular to record copanies, they see it as an actual type of music, a particular sound. A money-making sound. Don't confuse yourself thinking you dont like "pop" music though.

"I am Britney Spears, I sell records, I am a pop artist*"

(*please note if she referred to herself as an artist in my presence i would donkey punch her)

"Hi Im Jake Teblaauznikov, I am an overweight 30 year old Russian man. I make music inspired by Britney Spears, basically exactly the same to her music, but noones heard of me and noone buys my record, I am not a pop artist"

pop a boner

To pop a boner means for a guy to get a hard-on.

If I haven't taken care of my morning wood, I always pop a boner in the cadet showers!

pop-punk

A style of punk which features catchier tunes than regular punk, and simple 3-4 chord riffs.

Screeching Weasel, The Queers, Mr. T Experience, The Descendents, The Ramones, Bouncing Souls, and the Teen Idols are pop-punk. Blink 182, Sum 41, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, and New Found Glory are not.

a โ€œgirly popโ€ is a fun way of saying โ€œgayโ€. so instead of saying โ€œyour gayโ€ you can say โ€œyour girly popโ€. it just makes it more fun to say!

pop a squat

A bastardization of "cop a squat," to sit down.

Vivian: Well, I'm gonna give, umโ€”you'll buy a snap dog; we'll cop a squat under a tree somewhere.

Edward: Cop a what?

Vivian: Cop a squat.

This is from "Pretty Woman." Notice it's cop, not pop a squat.

pop tart

Actually, the use of "pop-tart" as an adjective for a slatternly pop singer was first coined by Mark Hรคnser in the Long Beach (California) Union Daily in 1983, first in reference to "Pat Bena-tart" then famously about Scandal's Patty Smyth (of "Goodbye To You" and "The Warrior" fame.)

By Mark Hรคnser, from the CSULB Union Daily's "finals week" issue of June, 1983:

"Pop Tart (pop tรคrt) n. 1. A delightful toaster pastry manufactured by Kellogg's of Battle Creek, MI. Often iced, the flaky treat is filled with either yummy fruits or some other sweet, such as chocolate or brown sugar-cinnamon. adj. 2. Patty Smyth, lead singer of the pop-rocking quintet Scandal. Possessing a certain fondness for leather-topped party dresses and long black gloves. Smyth follows in the footsteps of a long line of female perfomers who like to tease as much as torch. syn - Pat Benatar, Suzi Quatro."
