a genre of music. usually hated by rich white people who dont even know what poverty is. i must say to most of you rock fans, rap fans almost never say anything about rock, yet u try to demean rap with the most pathetic excuses to support your favorite music which are all based on STEREOTYPES. let me name a few:
1) "rappers can't sing, so they speak" (THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO SPEAK! ITS POETRY!)
2) "rappers always talk bitch about sex, drugs, violence" (STEREOTYPE!!! and it is not true. i can already name one who doesnt: kanye west)
3) "the music is not natural" (who gives a fuck?) remember rock fans, a guitar is natural, not an electric guitar that is fucked up by that distorted sound
4) "rappers moan about their lives" WRONG. alot of rappers are positive, every rock song i listen to is about negative shit (even though The Used scream and dont even ryhme and the music disorients me, i admire them for thier deepness into music) a funny thing is that most rappers are raised in poverty and so were The Used.
two people are fighting about which music is better:
1st guy: i like rock
2nd guy: i like rap
1st guy: you suck, why do you listen to that garbage, who cares about those blacks and thier poverty?
2nd guy: hey, The used is a rock band and they were raised in poverty too
1st guy: why do you listen to people talking about sex, drugs, violence
2nd guy: STEREOTYPE
1st guy: well, rockers have talent to play thier own instruments
2nd guy: ya, but they need eachother to play together, otherwise they cant play, but lyricists and rappers dont need anybody, the talent is in thier lyrics and mind, unlike rockers who dont need a brain to scream, slam on drums, and smash guitars after a concert! at least rap has a beat and rythm!
1st guy: uhhh... well... only niggas make rap, white people make rock and they are superior (similar to what most people post on the website)
2nd guy: wtf

Obviously all white, rock loving, rednecks, wrote about 95% of all these pathetic, judgemental definitions. Obviously all those people listened to a little bit of music from 50 Cent for about 1 minute, and officially said: "Rap is full of shit, its not music, its just talking, no talent, and its all about drugs, sex, violence, gangs, guns, rape, money, hoes, pimps, and all that shit."
That is Buuulllllshiiiit! 50 Cent has no talent anymore. So stop listening to 50 Cent and saying this is fake ass bullshit.
These assholes need to listen to some 2Pac, Eminem, and Jay-Z. 2Pac made a song called: Keep Ya Head Up. Its very postive and has nothing at all to do with drugs, sex, and violence. Eminem made a song: Mockingbird. Nothing involving drugs and sex. Jay-Z made a song: December 4th. All about his life, and a very nice song. All abosolutely clean of everything people assume is in rap. I hate it when people who have never even listened to at the most, 2 minutes of rap in their whole lifetime, assume that its always negative. Plus rapping is a lot more than just talking. And it does require talent. To be rapping is to be rhyming poetry very quickly and loudly, to a beat, in a rhythm (which is the hardest part), in a stressed to unstressed form.
Now how can you call that JUST talking?
Writing good lyrics and making good beats are very hard and essential to an excellent rap song.
Rap is music. Very real and entertaining.

musical application of poetry, usually associated with the hardships of life and emotional grievances. Started up as early as the Beats (i.e. Kerouac and Cassidy) began using more experimental forms of poetry, and since has transgressed into modern pop and underground culture.
"If I could show you, you would never leave it." --Atmosphere, the most beautiful combination of music and poetry

Rap is a type of music with a person talking over a beat.
Rap talks about sex, drugs, etc... more often than rock songs, you might be able to name a couple songs that dont but it is generally true. Rap has been stereotyped by the gangster rap that is heard in the mainstream and TV. People defend rap but they fail to notice the possibly worse injustice done to rock (hey, this is like hypocrisy). They think rock is either emo and depression (which I hate) or screaming, satanistic rock (which I hate). Sure these are genres but they are not even close to rock as a whole.
I have nothing against rappers who make their own lyrics, beats, and rythyms (that is art) but (correct me if I'm wrong) not many rappers do that, if any. Therefore it looks stupid to insult rock musicians who write their own songs, sing (not scream very often), and play instruments (with varying degrees of skill).
I choose to listen to rock because I believe it takes more skill, it is a more group effort, and is not quite so immature (I'm not trying to offend anyone here and rock can be immature). Kanye West may have skill and I respect true rappers but he is a white hater and therefore doesnt appeal to me.
I listen to bands such as Muse or Spoon, who are slightly intellectual, play their own instruments (with talent), write their own songs (not depressed or satanic), and sing (not scream).
Person 1: Man, I hate all rappers; all they ever do is "talk" about sex, drugs, and violence.
Person 2: Why ya hatin'? Rappa's are rappin' about somethin' real not just all that? Besides, I hate ur satanic rock.
Person 3: Listen to musicians with skill and dont stereotype. Really think about what you are listening to.

A lame excuse for a genre of "music" (I use the word loosely) consisting of some beats stolen from someone else song. With the bass turned all the way up. While some jackass dresses in a clown outfit and jumps up and down on stage like an ape. With other "dancers" (again loosely) attempt to dance to it.Bragging in nursery rhymes about his criminal thug lifestyle. Because he is to stupid to keep his mouth shut about his crimes.
is rap music? no rap is crap

Ok.
First thing's first, I personally don't like rap all that much. I love rock. But, I know my music, and I know it well so listen up.
Rap is not a sorry excuse for music. People like 50 Cent, Young Jeezy, and just about everyone else you see on MTV give it a bad name.
But people like NOSS (might of spelled that wrong), Mos Def, Tech Nine and Tupac make secular rap good.
It's true, in most rap songs, there is a LOT of cussing, and a lot of talk about sex and drugs.
But there are also positives, like some talk abut eating healthy, doing your best, and so on. There's also Christian rap, which personally I think SUCKS.
Note: I am a Christian.
Sucky rap: I'll take you to the candy shop,
I'll let you lick the lollipop. (Wonder that means.)
Good rap: I strive to eat healthy,
My goal in life is not to be rich or weatlhy.
GOOD
Alright I said enough.
P.S. I'm not white

The art of creating a song comprising of verses composed in a rhyming style. Whilst many other definitions have already been assembled, it is my duty to inform y'all, these other definitions have been made by retards with mono-syllabic minds and hence unable to contemplate the obvious talent and subtle genius it takes to create a good rap. So fuck the haters, this shit imma lay down is for real.
Whilst rap is, in its mainstream form, known as music discussing the joys of drive-by shootings and blazing up, there is a lot more to it than that although this sub-genre (otherwise known as gangsta rap) has produced some of the best music ever to enter anyones ears. Fact. What many don't understand is that not only is it hard to compile a rap with meaning and metaphors discussing the rappers own experiences and subtle messages for fans, it also takes skill to rap (or spit). rappers must have a good flow which they must fit to the beat and change if necessary, varying tempo and style on-the-go. They must also focus on breath control to enable stutter free verses and add emphasis onto lyrics more prominent or important to the theme of the rap song.
The best rapper ever is widely considered to be 2Pac mainly due to his incredible deep and expressive raps relating to all spheres of modern society with thoughts on racial issues and politics and also because of his emotional delivery and ability to alter his flow on a whim. Rap has also evolved since his day with mainstream rap falling short with more reliance on beat than substance with latter day rap group G-Unit, though good, on the verge of falling into this category.
In other words, rap is a true music form and requires just as much skill as rock (given the fact that raps are usually far more complex lyrically) and certainly anyone who disagrees totally has not thought it through, and are bound to get capped once they diss any of ma niggas with they hatin. Fo sho.
The most successful rap artists? Tupac, Notorious B.I.G, Big Pun.
You know who they be.
