Very often the better lawyers are involved in fighting for Human Rights and Civil Liberties in courts and the academic kind often researches to find out what effects laws are having on real people.
Often insulted by people who don't know how hard work it is and how much the authorities and corporations would trample over their rights if lawyers and the law didn't exist.

Lawyers always advertise about standing up for people on TV, the same way cops always talk about protecting people on TV. In the movie American Gangster, the actress fucking Russell Crowe's character Richie Robert's tells him to fuck her like a cop, not a lawyer. If cops are already full of shit, and you don't really want them to be the ones protecting you, what does that tell you about lawyers standing up for you?
Relying on lawyers to stand up for you is like waiting on the cops to come and protect you. If you do either one of those things, you're fucked regardess.
That one friend that is in a friend group who can defend you when you get in trouble, by teachers, students, or anyone for that matter. and when they do there lawyer stuff they actually get you or whoever there defending out of trouble.
