Blackmore's Night

A kickass band that plays Medieval music. They do mostly Celtic and Germanic-style Medieval music, but have also done Japanese, French, and some of their tunes have a Middle-Eastern flare.

Guitarist & Composer: Ritchie Blackmore
Lead Singer & Songwriter: Candice Night
Backing Vocals: Nancy and Madeline, "Sisters of the Moon"
Producer: Pat Regan & Romper (That's his cat...)
Violin: Lord Marnen of Wolfhurst
Bass: Sir Robert of Normandie
Percussion: Mike Sorrentino

Everything else is played by Ritchie and Candice. They have four albums out currently, all of them are spectacular. Their music is well-written and very detailed (You have to hear it to know what I mean) and their lyrics are the most poetic I've ever heard in songs.

"I fear not in the Ivory Tower, imprisonment you'll find...
It lies within your heart, your soul, your spirit and your mind..."

--Ivory Tower

"Through the darkened fields entranced, music made her poor heart dance,
Thinking of a lost romance, long a-go..."

--Shadow of the Moon

"Danger hidden in his eyes, we should have seen it from far away,
Wearing such a thin disguise in the light of day.
He held the answer to our prayers, yet it was too good to be...
Proof before our very eyes, yet we could not see..."

--Play Minstrel Play

day and night

A phrase used to describe a stark difference between two things. Similar to night and day, but "day and night" implies things got worse whereas "night and day" implies things got better. Sometimes preceded by "like."

JJ Redick was the man back in college, but now that he's in the NBA, he seems content to be a bench warmer averaging 4 points a game. The difference in his performance has been day and night.

Jake: "Wow bro, it was really light out here around 3 in the afternoon, but now that it's 9:00, it's dark as hell."
Blake: "For real dude. The difference in darkness level is like day and night."

Night Karate

Sudden and uncontrolled arm and leg movements that wake you up from a tenuous slumber. This phenomena commonly occurs on the first sober night of sleeping after several consecutive nights of being hammered.

The woman on the plane next to me was freaked out after I woke up from night karate.

the DotA night

Occurred sometime between April 27 and May 1 of 2009 in nashville, tn. the exact night will never be known because it involved absurd amounts of blacking out, alcohol, booting, and bad decisions. Every participant booted at least once that night and woke up the next morning with their shirts tucked into their underwear. The approximately eight soldiers who survived that night go down as rage legends.

Person 1: "Dude I blacked out so hard last night."
Person 2: "I know you were like 38 deep that was awesome."
Person 1: "Yo how did we get the DotA play count up to 138 last night?"
Person 2: "It was the DotA night!"

cabbage night

A term for the night before Halloween used in Vermont. This night is referred to as mischief night in many parts of the United States. On Cabbage Night, children who live in rural areas (i.e. the entire state) go out into the crops and collect rotten veggies. Then they go to the homes of prominent people in town: wealthy old spinsters that don't out candy, the town banker who forcloses on family farms, or the fucker that runs the general store. Don't get me started at that sum bitch. He thinks he can get a buck fifty for a fucking pepsi. All he's gonna get from me in a cabbage through the windshield of his Dodge.

Cabbage Night is fun.
