Standing to sit

The right to sit at a place ie a cafe or resturaunt, as opposed to trespass.

Concept borrowed from law, where to commence proceedings in a court case, you must have "legal standing."

If all you want to do is sit, then you require "standing to sit."

This can usually be gained by purchasing something from the venue.

I was walking through the mall and all I wanted to do was sit at a cafe and check my smartphone. But I didn't feel I had "standing to sit" so I bought a drink prior to sitting down.

To take care of your parents for the evening, usually they are senior citizens and need the physical help. Before they are put into assisted living situations.

same as to ask someone to join you for a meal or to smoke a cigarette (most popular usage), but can be used almost in every "join-me-situation"

1: Hey man,we've got a break now - let's sit on a cigarette!
2: No thanks, i don't smoke.

1: I'm hungry, do you know some place to eat?
2: Yes, its an Italian restaurant, let's sit on some good pasta there.
