cheerleading

Cheerleading is, in many peoples opinions, one of the most dificult sports in the world. No I am not reffering to those cheerleaders standing along the sidelines on friday nights screaming pointless cheers, and most usually making fools of themselves in front of the entire student body. I am talking about competition cheerleading. This type of cheerleading is a whole new world of cheerleading. Girls (or even guys) who participate in this know it is extremely physically demanding. They have a very strenuous routine to go out and do perfectly for two and a half minutes with a large amount of judges sit and watch for what they do wrong. It is extremely stressful.

There are a variety of different elements that go into a competition routine. Each individual cheerleader must stunt, tumble, dance, cheer, jump, and never let the crowd know they are exhausted in the process. Though they may run off the floor and puke into a trash can right when they are finished, while they are competing the cheerleader must act as if they are having the time of their life.

Cheerleaders practice all year around. There is no off season for them. They also don't have a chance to prove themselves over and over again by playing different teams each week. All their hours of practice are put to use at one big competition each year to see if they really are the best.

So next time you think of a cheerleader as just one of those bitchy popular girls, remember they are working their ass off at practice while you are sitting around bashing them on urban dictionary. Sweet life.

Ex.
Lisa- Hey how long was cheerleading practice yesterday?
Judy- Oh it was from 2 to 5, but we finally go the second stunt to stick everytime, and the dance is finally together.
Lisa- Awesome you guys ready for nationals?
Judy- Well I sure hope so. All this work for nothing? That would be so depressing.
Lisa- I'm sure you guys will place.

cheerleader

A girl - in some cases a male - who cheers on her school's athletic teams. Although this is the most popular type of cheerleader, there are also competition cheerleaders, who do not cheer for teams, but rather against other squads.

Though female cheerleaders are stereotypically known as stuck up, airheaded bimbos, this is not true in all cases. These girls would have the same personality whether they are cheerleaders or not. It just so happens that they are cheerleaders.

Male cheerleaders are usually considered "gay" which is, again, not always the case.

Though many outside of the cheerleading community consider it to be a sport for those who are not athletically inclined, in reality it is a very challenging sport. For many squads, you must have a background in tumbling (gymnastics) and must be able to do at least a back handspring.
There are many different cheers which you must remember at any given moment during a cheerleading function (whether it's a pep rally, game, etc.). You need to be able to lift girls up in the air when asked and be ready to catch them in case something goes wrong. For some squads, it's necessary to have at least a rudimentary knowledge of different types of dance, and you'll need to be able to perform in sync with the other girls on your squad.
Most squads practice 2 or more times a week, and it's a large responsiblity to show up at every practice on time or early.
Jumps are also very important for cheerleading purposes, and are also required for most squads, in order to try out. One must perfect their toe-touch (also known as a Russian), herkie, and pike, to name a few.

In addition, most cheerleading squads are responsible for painting all signs (including run-through signs, which the atheletic teams run through at the begining of the game) which are used at games. This requires at least a little bit of artistic knowledge.

There are a few different "positions" (so to say) which cheerleaders may be assigned. Some are flyers (those which are lifted up in the air in mounts, pyramids, and lifts), there are bases (the mainframe of bases and mounts), backs (they direct the lifts and help the bases), spotters (those who stand behind and/or around lifts, mounts and bases, and are there to catch the fliers in the case that something happens). There are also tumblers, who perform gymnastics.
Depending on the size of the squad, different girls may switch positions (some bases can also be used as backs, some fliers can be used as tumblers, etc.).

In conclusion, cheerleaders are very dedicated to their sport and teams. In many cases, cheerleaders create lifetime friendships because of their closeness and sense of unity through cheerleading practices, games, etc.

Kate: Are you trying out for cheerleading this year, Amy?
Amy: Definitely - I had so much fun last year, and I think I'll be able to make it onto the Varsity squad, this year.
Kate: That's good, I hope you make it! The Varsity cheerleaders are great.

Cheerleading

Cheerleading. I am a cheerleader && have been for 3 years. You may all think that cheerleading isn't a sport, but so what, football players throw footballs, and we throw 100 pound girls. If you ask me, cheerleading is a pretty hard thing to do. I went to camp for one day && came home with bruises and sore as can be. Not all cheerleaders are whores and sluts. I played soccer, and volleyball, and this one is almost harder than all of them. So next time you say cheerleading isn't a sport, make sure you've got your facts straight. :)

Cheerleading IS a sport.

cheerleading

Cheerleading:
When a group of people cheer for a sport or perform routines in front of judges. The group consists of cheerleaders which throw each other up in the air, jump, and use motions. This is encouragement for the teams that they cheer for, and is a VERY HARD SPORT. If you don't think cheerleading is a sport and cheerleaders are athletes, you have probably heard some stereotypes about them. Let me clarify:
1. Cheerleaders are dumb. THIS IS NOT TRUE. I am a cheerleader, and I also get all A's and B's and I am in the IB program at my school (for all of you idiots out there, its like AP, but way harder)
2. Cheerleaders are sluts. This is stupid. I know more softball players and basketball players that sleep with every guy they know than cheerleaders.
3. Cheerleaders don't have anything better to do than shake their butts, and prance around. Actually, cheerleading requires dance skills, gymnastics skills, and we lift weights, run, and keep up our endurance.

You are entitled to your opinion, but try cheerleading first, BEFORE you say its not a sport. Thank you.

Cheerleaders work just as hard, if not harder, as all other athletes. Cheerleading is hard work.

Cheerleader

An ATHLETE,
someone who works hard,
and is extremly determind.
I think what you're all thinking of is
"highschool cheerleading."
But, not in all cheerleading you cheer for jocks.
You compete,
and love and respect your team,
just like in any other REAL SPORT.
It requires strenght, courage, determination,
and muscle.
I'd like to see you people who think cheerleading
"isn't a sport,"
do a back handspring, a front handspring or
any other VERY tricky tumbling.
ALSO,
have you ever tried lifting a person,
on counts, with music, and doing it with style and grace.
I DON'T THINK SO.
Stop dissing cheerleaders,
cause you couldn't get one to look at you.
Also, Cheerleaders are not "blonde bimbo's"
That's called a stereo type!!
This is a sport that encourages pride.
So, whenever you break us down,
we just build ourselves RIGHT BACK UP.
AND, to people who think cheerleading is for sissys..
YOU ARE SO WRONG.
People have died cheerleading,
people will have broken an ankle,
and smiled and finished there routine,
and then when they get off the floor..
THEY COLLAPSE.
I'd like to see a sissy do that.
There's a thing called ALL STAR CHEERLEADING.
It's HARD WORK.
If Cheerleading isn't a sport,
then I guess, FOOTBALL, HOCKEY, BASEBALL, BASKETBALL, ect.
isn't a sport either!!
Think about this..
in any other sport you drop a ball..
in cheerleading you drop a person.
If that's not a sport WHAT IS?
CHEERLEADER = ATHLETE
CHEERLEADING = SPORT
By the way,
most cheerleaders don't even use pom poms.

AND..

ATHLETES lift weights,
CHEERLEADERS lift ATHLETES.

see,
athlete anddd.. sport

GO CHEERSPORT STINGRAYS!!

A Cheerleader is an athlete.

Bridget's team went to worlds last year.
