trump

to have the appearance of being large and important when in reality the subject is small and insignificant. to appear larger than one actually is. in playing cards, it's a hand that is claimed to be the winner but actually is the worst hand on the table.

That banana split turned out to be a real trump as there was not enough ice cream and even the banana was tiny. Playing cards, I claimed a trump while trying to bluff but my hand was so bad that I lost to a pair of two's. The new President turned out to be a real trump.

Trumped

Similar to being dumped. When your self-described "good friend"dumps you, saying that he never really knew you and tries to dissociate from you in the public eye. Can be done for a number of reasons:

1. Perceived disloyalty
- standing up for principles when those conflict with the friend's desires
- disobeying orders
- contradicting the friend publicly
- revealing that the friend lied
- claim to be superior to the friend in any particular trait

2. Loss in public status
- lose an election in which friend supported you
- accused of crime
- involved in scandal

3. No longer useful after having been useful in some manner
- somebody becomes more useful in same capacity (offers more money, more voting shares in board elections, can deliver more votes in political capacity)
- support of friend over principles and fact has reduced your credibility to the point that your support is no longer useful to the friend

I was Trumped after I gave him my kidney. First we were great friends and now he acts like he does not even know me.
Jonny trumped me when Billy gained a controlling interest in the property he wanted to buy from our company.
Doug trumped me when I did not stop test firing my newly developed missile system after he publicly said I would.
When nobody would believe me anymore because of my loyal defense of Will in the face of facts, Will fired me from public relations and pretended not to recognize me when I said hello at the restaurant the other day.
Luke was a criminal and all, but John sure enjoyed the prostitutes on Luke's yacht parties. Now John acts like he never knew Luke.
POTUS trumped Netahnyahu after the Likud Party lost supremacy in the latest Israeli elections.
POTUS trumped Pete Sessions when he recused himself from the Russian election interference investigation.
