The use of rhythmic beats and words used to convey ones circumstances, experiences, or dreams past, present, or future. Rap is a form of poetry just as country, rock/punk, or any other form of music.They all make you subconsciously or consciously move to the music. They sway you.
The only reason why it's so bad is because of the way it has been displayed. Rap, in the mainstream, has been portrayed as misogynal, corrupt, violent, impetuous, demeaning, and ignorant. Basically it's secular. Rap has been tainted as it entered the mainstream. Gangsta rap is not real. It's only a bunch of igonorant fools who make fun of themselves and their race and they basicall make black people look ignorant. Now not all rap is fake or garbage. The truth of the matter is that there is an equal amount of MC's tryin to reverse the course of rap. It's just that they can't make it onto the radio stations without sounding ghetto or ignorant. Idiots like 50 cent, Snoop, and all the new gangsta rappers who only get onto the mainstream by putting a lil in front of their names are fake. They only talk about guns, bitches, hoes, money,cars, akohol, and drugs. Rappers like Common, Kanye, Lupe, Rhyme Fest, Mos, and Talib try to liberate ignorant minds but people love ignorance. I'm tired of people saying that they must change the industry. Before you change the industry, change yourself. Black people listen to crap music. Then whenever someone outside of the race says something like nigger or hoe we get mad, but rappers today say it all the time. Now I'm not tryin to justify racism, but we have to stop being hypocrites. When sum1 says bitch or hoe we get all mad, have al Sharpton talk about sum bull, then 3 months later we forget the entire situation. It's like a stimulant. Hot for now but cold later. Rap has to be purged in order for it to become true again.

some people say that rap is just people "talking" into the microphone,
well anyone who's heard more than a couple of the mainstream "hip-hop" songs, not real rap will of course say this because they usually don't give it the time of day.
however, bands such as Kotton mouth kings, a band formed on the ideals of smoking weed are a perfect example of a good "rapper".

a.k.a. NOT MUSIC. The worst kind of "music" next to reggeatone. (notice i use the term "music" mighty loosely) Black people use it to get their surpremacist messages across and to talk about their sex life... or lack thereof. Rap is not music, as it takes no talent to produce, let alone perform. No instruments are used and therefore no talent is needed. All one needs is a thing for rhyming and the ability to talk fast and somewhat rythmically... which damn-near anyone can do.
All rap is about is promotion of sex, drugs, and generic crime. It glorifies gangs and somehow it has captured the hearts of youth. It is best described as the Devil's Music.
Rap is not music. It takes no talent. If you like Rap, FUCK YOU! Rock is by far superior to your urban shit!

Rap SUCKS and it always did. It's not music...it's pure garbage...filthy deragatory vile crap. Rappers are the biggest EMOS on earth. All they do is complain about their life and so called struggles...if you commit crimes shitdip you OBVIOUSLY will struggle. Rap only promotes violence, sexism, materialism, and increases the crime rate everywhere. Nowhere is safe. Black people...good luck because it's only going downhill for you people. You buying Sean John, Rocawear, and all those other clothing brands that rappers wear only fill up their pockets...while you're broke as a joke trying to make ends meet. How is rap positive? Do not judge rap by what you see on tv like those douche-bags moon knight, and JM, and everyone else who thumbes uped there horribly inaccurate definitions. The first definition by "The Intelligent"is very well done and directy proves the shitty definitions i mentioned earlier wrong.
