To this day, for instance, most people living outside our borders reside in countries where the private practice of broadcast journalism is illegal and where the state is the dominant banker. Americans can say anything they want, worship any god they choose, and associate with any motley crew around. Our legacy is not slave chains, Wounded Knee, and the murder of James Byrd, but American GIs liberating a Nazi death camp, an immigrant's first glance of lady liberty's torch, and Ronald Reagan exhorting the Soviet's to tear down the Berlin Wall. If nothing else, America means freedom.

Occurs morning after you drink high volumes of alcohol followed by impromptu football activities without pads. Symptoms typically include those of a "normal" hang over (i.e. headache, nausea, vomiting) as well as scars, bruises, or overall soreness due to football related activities. A state that voted for the presidential canidate from the Democratic party. It would appear on a map as blue, while Republican-leaning states appear as red; a red state. This term, though new in its invention (circa 2000), does not have any exlusive relationship to a specific date or any single election: it is realitive.

Countries that currently, or in recent history have depended upon the United States. Often used in an arrogant manner by some Americans who think that somehow showing support towards a nation should somehow give them a stake in that nation. Also often used by people noting that the culture of a country seems, or that a country shows a lot of support towards the US, or because of their cultural similarity to the US.
First usage: The United Kingdom due to the assistance from Americans in World War II, is sometimes a considered a 51st state.
Second usage: The United Kingdom is considered a 51st state due to their government's support of America in the Iraq war.
