The modern version alternative music--actually an offshoot with roots from the British rock subgenre.
NOTE: Garage rock has changed in the last 40 years. The feel is more fast pased, and it usually gives a "complete" feeling; there are usually no boring gaps or holes in the song. Garage rock shares some qualities with Indie, such as their individuality. Also, these bands are often the lesser known bands, which has no correlation with their talent.
Contrary to emo, pop, metal, punk, goth, "modern" or "anthem" rock, etc...
Garage Rock bands include:Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (BRMC), The Hives, The Vines, The Stooges, Sahara Hotnights, The Subways, Caesars, The Libertines, The White Stripes (borders general rock), Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Donnas, Cardigans (borders on pop).
NOTE: This list is only a fraction of accomplished bands. Bands form and die everyday, and some are never known out of their hometown.

Mostly crappy rock music. It's Japanese rock music hince the J for Japanese. Most of the "singers" dress like women and follow the 70's glam rock idea. Although the music not lyrics are alright most of the lyrics when translated into english or even read in Japanese don't make sence. It's about as coharent as J-Rap and equaly bad.
Otaku-Oh my god J-rock is soooo much better then American or British rock!
Me-Japan is behind the times when it comes to rock and Japan should make their own style rather then steal it.

The crappiest rock music I've ever hard. Being a douche rocker means you have to sound like a prepubescent boy when you're singing, hit random, incoherent chords in songs, and have no timing, rhythm, or skill when you're drumming. You also have to cream you're manpanties whenever one of your crappy hits is played on "Z100", MTV's "TRL", and the like.
Douche rock bands include the likes of All American Rejects, the late Green Day, Nickleback, Alter Bridge, AFI, and jesus christ Fall Out Boy. I HATE FALL OUT BOY!!!
Doucherock is taking over the free world while badass modern bands like Velvet Revoler and Avenged Sevenfold are consistently pushed to the side in favor of these fucking Gap clothed, Starbucks drinking, Z100 listening, straight edge clown shoes.
Fuck Douche Rock
Fall Out Boy, Hawthorne Heights, All American Rejects, Alter Bridge, Nickleback, Jimmy Eat World and AFI are all festering examples of the douchiest douche rock in the universe. I'd list more, but I'm afraid I'll grow a vagina if I did.
