Blues

Aka Meloncholia, often confused with soul or rock music. See also "The Blue Period" a term used in Art to define to the works produced by Spanish painter Pablo Picasso between 1901 and 1904, when he painted essentially monochromatic paintings in shades of blue. In music, the "blue" is often the sound of emotional loss or heartbreak, with a 1-4-5 progression using dominant 7th or minor 7th chords to give a dissonant tonality. Some EDM is bluesy. Many people say Robert Johnson invented the blues, but they never had the true blues, or they'd know better. Blues is old as life.

man 1: dang, I'm feeling low and unworthy and I can't seem to make it better. I need to express this in some creative outlet. Hmm, maybe I'll play music nd sing about meloncholia.
Man 2: yeah ok, that sure sounded Bluesy
Man 1: it's the intervals I played they have a tonal resonance that resembles how I feel.
Man2: Art imitates life...
Man 2: hey, did you hear the new BB King & Eric Clapton album, they says they king of the blues
Man 1: eff that, they're rich and married, they ain't got the blues, maybe when they was young they had em, but now they soul rockers or some other genre. see that homeless guy singing to himself with the harmonica, he's got the true blues
Man 1: sorry man, I'm kinda strict about proper labels.
Man 2: dang
Man 2: but artist can imitate others to create works, it's like therapy or a way of understanding
Man 1: in that case, let's go paint the town "red"
Man 2: now you're talkin'

The Blues

1. A state of depression which becomes the norm after you've spent your whole life being a slave or a sharecropper or another shitty occupation.

2. The result of somebody with the aforementioned problem picking up an instrument and singing about it.

3. A specific chord progression that originated in the 19th Century in the American South from black slaves with the problem mentioned in (1) and the talent mentioned in (2).

Jim the sharecropper was angry at the white man for keeping him down all his life, so he picked up his guitar and became a traveling man, playing The Blues wherever he went.
