It is also a Pop-culture reference to the comic book 'Superman' which took the allegory of Moses and Jesus Christ from the Bible and made Clark Kent's superhero alter-ego.

Based off Superman, it's the inability to notice that someone wearing glasses and that person not wearing glasses are the same person.
