An overrused, overrated form of sword.
Sure, they're pretty, and sure, they can work, but they're not the best. Anime and pop-culture are only using them for the former; because Anime is japanese, so are katanas, that's justified, but the runoff of Anime is spilling into pop-culture leading people to believe that the katana is the best form of sword in the known universe. This is why I hate fads.
Opinions aside, the Katana is a gently curved blade, single-edged, which lacks a large crossguard, but does have some form of guard between the hilt and blade. It, like the european bastard sword, may be used in one OR two hands, and it was traditionally used by the Samurai.
Please, before you create a character for Role Playing, or buy a sword, consider your options, and open your mind to other swords.

1.A katana is a sword that, while sharp, tends to shatter if you smack the flat of the blade hard enough. It was not used for blocking of blows, unlike the european sword but rather to deflect the force of an oncoming attack to the side.
2. A fad "supersword" with much popularity that actualy resembles no modern swords. Seen often in RPGs and in cartoons/comics

The ultimate sword that is folded over 9000 times, It can deflect multiple .50BMG bullets and up to a 155mm howitzer round without warping, bending or shattering, It can cut through the armor of a M1A2 Abrams tank and it will make your penis noticeably larger.
They are often wielded by Weeaboo's, Wapanese and Japanophiles in modern times, In ancient times they were worn by the elite Samurai class and any Anime character of the era.
Any rumors that they can't deflect bullets and disintegration rays are completely unfounded, It's also a myth that they are made of cheap pig iron, They are made with unobtainium and steel called Tamahagane.
A US GI fired his M1919 .30cal machine gun at the approaching samurai warrior but he deflected all the shots with his Katana, cut the barrel in half and cut the soldier in half firing it all under 0.5 seconds.

A person, animal or thing that will protect you/have your back in times of need. It has the ability to slice enemy’s in half with a single stroke similar to the way a person would mow their lawn.
It is advisable to not be killed by it as your soul would with forever be trapped inside of it.

A girl who is every bit crazy but is a amazing friend. Don't mess with katana or she will most likely mess up your face. Katana's are a rare breed and if you can find a girl as amazing as her then your lucky because there is no one better at being a friend . Katana's are usually red heads, brunettes or blond and are extremely pretty and have very beautiful eyes. They come from Italy and usually stay around in Europe. She is adventurous and isn't afraid to go cliff- diving or parachuting (In Minecraft). She looks danger in the eyes and couldn't be more brave. She has an unbelievably soothing voice that she's not afraid to use. She also is the best person to take to a party. If you can find a katana then you are a very lucky person.
