Napsterize

To freely distribute knowledge/works that may or may not be protected by copyright law through file sharing software.

In the past 50 years, the process of "napsterization" has been applied to all sorts of intellectual property distribution, from bootleg cassette tapes to digital files like mp3s and movies.
There is even some concern presently about how the process will affect written work.

The term stems from a program written by Shawn Fanning in 1998 called Napster, a popular P2P program.

I used to napsterize mp3s when I was younger, but after years of listening to loud music, I have gone deaf. Because of this combined with the fact I have no money, I still napsterize books whenever I can.

napster

Part of the "Let's hate Metallica" tren, in which case people were furious to have to spend another 10 minutes downloading a new free illegal file sharing program.

Napster's gone...amazingly my life feels no different.

napster

Formerly the name for the internet's premier file-sharing program. Now means to take a small nap where you don't actually usually fall asleep.

Dude, I'm wasted! I'm going for a napster.

napster

represents any peer-to-peer network or client. in homage to the deceased Napster client, that died a horrible death to stupid ass copyright issues.

examples include Kazaa, Gnutella, etc.; but nothing really compares to the selection that used to be available on the fabled Napster network.

I am missing two tracks from this album! time to fire up Napster!

I really wish I had more porn. Time for Napster.

napster

The Greatest Peer-to-Peer file sharing program in the history of mankind. Music was being shared by individuals on a scale never seen before and probably never will be seen again.

After Napster, lots of other programs tried to fill its gap: Audiogalaxy, Kazaa, Morpheus, Winmx.. but all of them together could not fill 1/4 of Napster's shoes.

napster

File Transfer server which was brought down by its own popularity and Metallica, but who cares? Metallica rock, and Napster sucked compared to Kazaa Lite.

Kid: "Napster has been shut down."
Hetfield: "Thank fuck for that!"
Kid: "You bastard! I'll never listen to Metallica again!"
Hetfield: "Yeah, that's what they all said..."
