frank sinatra

The greatest pop singer ever to grace the Earth. From his early career with Harry James and Tommy Dorsey, through his late Reprise years, Sinatra was called "the Signature Voice." His Capitol recordings are among the finest pieces of music in existance. Sinatra revolutionized the recording industry when he made his transition from Columbia Records to Captiol in 1952-1953. He pionnered the shift from band centered music, with a singer stuck in, to a style in which the singer was the center piece (it remains so to this day). In addition to being an indescribable singer, he was also a terrific film actor, garnering such awards as an Oscar for his performance in "From Here to Eternity," in 1953. Other singers preceeded and followed Sinatra, including Nat "King" Cole, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, Ella Fitzgerald, and Tony Bennett, but none had the flare Frankie did.

Examples of these are: "Our Love is Here to Stay," "I've Got the World on a String," "I've Got You Under My Skin," "Come Fly With Me," "I Guess I'll Have to Change My Plans," and "Moonlight in Vermont." He had 20 consecutive top-ten albums, and his song "Nice~N~Easy" was song of the year for 1960 (take that Beetles!)

Me: "There's a definition on UrbanDictionary that has Frank Sinatra listed as the greatest pop singer of all."
Mr. Katchko: "Ooooh K, we aren't the least bit biased, are we?"
Me: "No, Mr. Katchko, we all know it's the truth."

Frank Sinatra

The Original Gangster/Musician. A pimp in all aspects of the word. Unlike todays so called "Gangsta rap stars" Sinatra was a badass yes still had class.

Frank Sinatra was way cooler and more talented then Notorious B.I.G, Tupac, and all the rest of the so called gangsta rappers put together.

punk Sinatra

quite simply, this is a term used to describe former Roxy Music frontman Bryan Ferry. His vocal crooning styles, his habit of wearing stylish clothes when he plays the piano, synthesizer, and occasionally guitar, his stylish, suave, sophisticated and elegant image that he shows in pictures, performance and video and the fact that Roxy Music inspired punk rock and New Wave leads to this designation. Today he pursues his solo career, sometimes covering artists that inspire him - like Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Marvin Gaye and yes, Frank Sinatra. His sound is now generally the New Romantic and Eurodisco styles that Roxy Music laid the foundation for.

I heard Roxy Music on the radio and saw some of their videos (as well as Bryan Ferry solo)on MTV in the Eighties. In 1990 I had a buyer's card filled up with purchase punches which meant I could get a free album. The girl at the checkout said that the album I got (a Roxy best-of) was really good, and she said that Bryan Ferry is a "punk Sinatra". Man was she right! I've been a fan ever since.

dank sinatra

Another code term to be used in place of cannabis.

Primarily used around figures of authority, who will most likely not be able to identify what you are talking about. If anything, they'll be fooled into thinking you're talking about Frank Sinatra.

(A) Hey, are you in the mood for any Dank Sinatra?

(B) All this Dank Sinatra has worn me out.
