Worzel

Worzel or on the off chance spelt Wurzel is a popular slang term used on the South Coast to describe people from the West Country farming community of Southampton. The residents speak with an extremely strong rustic west country accent and use phrases like “I’ve been laffing” and “Ize a right soton Worzel ize is”. Most Worzels struggle to form sentences.

Southampton people or Worzels are yokel and derive from farming communities, their past times consist of county fairs, vegetable shows and horse trading. The most popular sport in the Hampshire village of Southampton is softball and closely followed by Squash.

Worzels usually dress like scarecrows with outfits containing, handmade leather boots, sheep skin jackets and straw hats. Urban City folk from Portsmouth / Pompey take pity on the Worzels and see them as nothing more than spineless farmers.

A pompey lad overheard two Worzels at Eastleigh train:
Worzel 1: “Andy, Ize can’t stop laffin today”
Worzel 2: “You iz as happy as larry today, let’s get home and tend to the cattle me babba”.

Southampton Worzels

The Southampton Worzels are a collective of Worzels that band together to support Southampton FC. They attend every home and away game and sometimes even via their horses and wagons. The Worzels are the closest thing they have to a firm, much bigger clubs on the south cost like Portsmouth and Brighton view them as soft yokals. The dialect of Southampton and their supports are that of a farming decent, it is a strong mixture of west country and worzel gummidge. They have an extremely rustic characteristic and adore the crow master.

The Southampton Worzels might sing: "Oh when the Worzels, go marching in, Oh when the Worzels go Marching in. I want to be in that number, Oh when the Worzels go marching in".
