opportunistic expat

a person who moves from a developed country to an developing country with the intention of enjoying an easier way of life, often at the expense of the locals. For example, many English teachers in East Asia like to convince others that they are serving or sacrificing for the populations in which they live and work for a salary far above local wages, but in reality, they are taking advantage of the people living in the host country.

Many of the opportunistic expats in Bangkok who frequent the city's whore houses must pretend that human trafficking does not exist.

Expat Hipster

Someone who has lived abroad for so long that while technically American, they feel they are as cool as the locals. Originally coined by D.K.

When you are walking down the street in Dushanbe and give another American "the nod", if they totally blow you off; that is an Expat Hipster.

expat kid

The child of an expatriate. Expatriates are professionals transferred/posted to another country for work purposes. They may spend anywhere from ten months to ten years overseas, and their salaries are often as big as their egos. With nearly all expenses paid for, expat kids are enrolled in the most expensive international schools available in their host country. As a result of being surrounded by their own elite kind all the time, most expat kids are spoilt, smart, arrogant and very fashionably-dressed.

If they move around the globe at least twice, expat kids evolve into Third Culture Kids (TCK)s.

Girl 1: I can't wait to watch Gossip Girl tonight!
Girl 2: Ha, why bother? It's practically based off our lives! Only Blaire and Serena are actually native New Yorkers and not foreigners.

Guy 1: So, which high school do you go to?
Guy 2: I go to Singapore American School, bitch.
Guy 1: Shit, you must be loaded! You an expat kid or something?
Guy 2: Damn right I am!

Laptop Expat

The annoying expat who constantly post pictures of themselves working on their laptop by the beach, nature or a cafe in some remote third world country, usually very pale skin, malnourished and spotting a manbun with a cup of soy latte, and portraying themselves as successful carefree individual living the life.

See that hippie laptop expat over there? He said he's a dropshipper.
