When someone is so focused on listening to one thing and cant hear anything else.
When someone can only hear one thing at a time, instead the culmination of sound from the entire room.
u have to yell at your friend multiple times to get his attention because he has tunnel hearing and is watching t.v.

When you're speaking to a hard of hearing person, you should be facing them, speaking in a clear, even voice, and make sure that you're annunciating your words properly.
