Live and Let Die

The 8th James Bond film from 1973, and the first of seven films starring Roger Moore. The film is unique as it's the only film so far to have a sole African American lead villain, as well as henchmen. The bond girl was Jane Seymour in her first major film.

The title song, written and performed by Paul McCartney and Wings was one of the most popular songs of the year 1973 and one of the most popular Bond songs period.

"My name is--- Names are for tombstones baby, waste him now!"

"It's a matter of life, it's a matter of death!"

"Live and Let Die is the 8th film of the James Bond series."

live by the gun, die by the gun

A phrase to describe the truism that you increase the probability of dying violently when you choose to live a life of violence.

It was never lost on me that you must consider the wisdom of β€œlive by the gun, die by the gun,” when choosing to own or carry a firearm.

live by the sword, die by the sword

It means those who spend all their time seeking violence and trying to kill others are destined to find the violence they seek and die instead. It is meant as a warning to not seek fights, but to try to find peaceful resolutions to problems if at all possible (a sentiment that is too often forgotten and sorely needed in this world).

You hear about Blake? He thought he was all that and went to front with the guys in the barro. Even with his piece, he ended up fufilling the old saying, live by the sword, die by the sword.

live by the sword, die by the sword

This expression was adapted from Jesus’ words to His disciple Peter in Matthew 26:52--But Jesus said to him, "Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword."

An idiom meaning β€œwhat goes around comes around.” More to the point, β€œif you use violent, forceful, or underhanded methods against other people, you can expect those same methods to be used against you.”

A person who lives violently will probably at some point be killed in a violent manner.

The expression "live by the sword, die by the sword" was contemporized to "live by the gun, die by the gun."

Too Weird to Live Too Rare to Die

The infamous quote from Hunter's Finest works "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." In both the movie where Raoul Duke Played By Jonathan Depp, and in the book; Raoul Duke the main character utters/thinks the famous line as a farewell.

*Camera Pans onto Raoul Duke's Samoan Attorney is boarding the plane*
Raoul Duke: "There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die."

Amber: Wtf does "Too Weird to Live Too Rare to Die" even mean? isn't that like a Panic at the disco Album?? omg I love Brendon Urie!
Johnny: No you dumb hoe, it means that you can be both too weird to actually continue living and also too rare to actually start to die. and no, PANIC AT THE DISCO WEREN'T THE INVENTORS OF THE PHRASE.
