The dirty south is the cultural and geograpical South of Black America. This term was made popular by hip-hop in the 1990's. This region consists of twelve states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky (debatable) Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. Historically, each of these states were part of the Confederacy, therefore being former slave states, and the Blacks in this region take pride in the customs they share and the struggles they have faced as a group. This people of this region also share a bond from fighting the stereotypical view by Blacks of other regions as being backwards and country.
The term "dirty" exemplifies the conditions the Blacks of this region have lived, survived, and thrived in since Blacks were brought over as slaves.
The Dirty South is the opposite of what is depicted when one thinks of Dixieland.

The dirty south is all of da south specially the ones off the gulf coast including Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and yes Texas(if you dont think so you stupid, they country and very much south not mid west dummy)Tennessee, Arkansas , South and North Carolina, and actually kentucky ass well.

Down in the southeast...mostly around the ghettos consisting of the states of Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, etc...mostly all them states in the southeast...

Correction on that last one......the 0nly state people WOULD NOT consider being part of the Dirty South would be Kentucky

Actually the dirty south is the most southernest states only.not no ny. fl,ga, kt,tn,nc,sc,tx,va,la(state not city).if the others states weren't named their not considered the dirty south.

The real definition refers to the corruption in the legal system in the southern states as well as the oppression experienced due to the actions of the still upheld good old boy system.
Examples include:
1. The targeting of Latino laborers for cash money by the sheriff's departments.
2. Violent "drug busts" in which unarmed young black men are all shot dead with little signs of resistance.
3. The set ups, snitchings, and sell out incidents that happen among different groups of people and crews to someone else in exchange for money or sexual favors.
The fact that tricking (in it's original definition) and sexual debauchery is condoned is indicative of the level of complacency among the people in the region.
Some of these rappers are nothing but mere puppets that up hold the image that the dirty south is the place to be when in reality it's a facade to disguise the real ugly underbelly of the region.
