Selective hearing

This can be defined as when a person only responds to specific instructions, words or sentences.

This mostly applies to toddlers and young children. Some children would ignore a call from an adult but would immediately respond when the adult offered them a treat

E.g selective hearing :
The boy only responds to"come and eat".

Selective hearing

Selective hearing refers to the way people only hear a part of what someone is saying β€” often, it's what they want or expect to hear β€” and miss out on the rest.

This tends to cause conflict, riffs and miscommunication in relationships.

It is also very annoying and RUDE.

Sophie Hawker 's selective hearing makes holding a conversation with her a time job.

Selective Empathy

That counts as a citation.

Hym "Ultra-Omega Psychology Genius! That entire segment about selective empathy is downstream from my thing! How am I THIS GOOD at everything!? I have to have like 1 million citations at this point. Wait, is it 937 kills or is it 937 PhDs? Assists? No, that would suck. 937 isn't a lot of assists...So, it's gotta be PhDs. 937 PhDs! The single greatest psychologizer in the history of humanity!"

Selective Reader

When you’re in an online argument and someone only mentions a part of your argument that they can use against you to make it seem like you lost is a selective reader.

I was in an argument with someone Twitter who only used some parts of my texts to counter argue. What a selective reader!

selective e-mail

Similar to selective hearing, but when a colleague (usually a Manager) only chooses to respond to e-mails which suit their needs.

Typically, this is because they don't know *how* to respond, as a result of being incompetent.
They do this regardless of the impact their lack of reply has on their staff/colleagues.

Ultimately, they will not be held responsible for their lack of response and the blame will fall on the person who was awaiting their response!

Ben: "Corey, did you get my e-mail last Monday?"
Corey: "Yeah, mate."
Ben: "..... Can you let me know how to move forward on that? I need your guidance."
Corey: "Sure! I'll reply to you when I'm at my desk."
Matt: "Corey won't reply to your e-mail. He has selective e-mail, remember?"
Ben: "Shit."
