Data Guilt

When you believe that the data your have in your computer system is more messed up than the data in everyone else system.

I've got Data Guilt. I'm embarrassed every time I run a report. I'm afraid to ask my team to clean up our Salesforce - our data is so much worse than the customer service system's data.

Little Data Thinking

Derogatory. A paradigm that some closed minded programmers adopt; thinking that they can only use or have access to data that they have in the immediate environment, memory or localized systems.

Tom, We do have other information. Lets move from little data thinking; we have access to the outdoor temperature of many other sources in the same zip code than just the one in the car.

Thick data

Thick data is qualitative information that provides insights into the everyday emotional lives of consumers. It goes beyond big data to explain why consumers have certain preferences, the reasons they behave the way they do, why certain trends stick and so on.

Data scientist 1: so what did u do this weekend?
Data scientist 2: dude, I've been running some regressions on this data set. My dataset so thick bro! Wanna see? (Pulls out laptop)
Data scientist 1: dayum son, dat data thicc tho! I'd run regressions on dat all night.

Data scientist 2: I actually did. My laptop has slow processing speed. It takes several hours to process thick data.

Beholder data

Data that is created by you but stored and owned by a company. The company displays it to you but you do not have any rights to it. Typically the company says it's not used by anyone else but you and you have the rights to it but in practice the data is really hard to download or use by anything else than the company's own products.

- Hey, the data is harmless let Google have it. I mean what can they do with it?
- What if you want to use it to something else, like controlling your Samsung device?
- I can just download it, no problem, right?
- Nah man, its beholder data only.
