1. A person that is in a disbelief in the existence of a god or gods (A meaning "no" and theism meaning "god(s)") and is to understand that science can explain everything.
2. Often characterized as "arrogant" or "misfortunate"/"damned to hell" for not having faith in any religion of sorts.
3. Could be described as a "see it to believe it" type person as they have not seen real physical evidence of a deity and as a result, do not believe in any theism.
1. Christian: "So how was the world created?"
Atheist: "So how was God created?"
Christian: "He always was and always will be."
Atheist: "Yeah well a bunch of pressurized gas and such exploded and infinitely expanded, to me."
2. Christian: "What church do you go to?"
Atheist: "I'm an Atheist; I don't go to church."
Christian: "How can you just say God doesn't exist?"
(In this situation, the Christian is actually being arrogant in that they are questioning another's belief in an arrogant tone.)
3. Christian: "Did you hear that they found Noah's ark?!"
Atheist: "About 85% of the world believes in some kind of ark and you all are always trying to convert everyone to your religion to 'save us'. How can I be so sure it's real if I haven't discovered it myself?"

People who don't necessarily believe there is no god. They just don't believe in one. They are realists who need proof before faith and not the other way around.

The word Atheist refers to someone who is a follower of the Atheist Religion. The religion of Atheism was founded between 20-25AD by Arad Atheus, a Gomorrahn Shepard who was actively involved in and, though not known for certain, is said to have led the campaign to ban Jesus from preaching. Arad Atheus was conservative in his ways and saw Jesus's progressive philosophy of life and promotion of abstention to be harmful and restrictive of the common people's natural desires. Atheus had followers similar in number, perhaps even higher, than those gathered by Jesus. Atheus died of leprosy at the age of 40, shortly before the crucifixion of Jesus. Atheus contributed greatly to the edict that ultimately sent Jesus to his death. The holy book of Modern Atheism is The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins - the current High Priest of Atheism. Approximately 15% of the world are Atheists and Atheists use the findings of science rather than the idea of an almighty God to explain the universe

One who pretends they are not religious just to fit in with the hipsters at school. Usually brags about being an Atheist.
Sadie: OMG so like we were talking about religion in World History and people said that like God is REAL!!! Ugh they're so mainstream! God obviously doesn't exist like those people are like so mainstream and stupid. I'm different because I'm an Atheist.

An atheist is a person who does not necessarily believe in the existance of a god, or gods, or supreme beings of some kind. They are often charcterized as uncaring, arrogant, self centered, hateful, depressed, miserable, etc. This is not always the case. A common misconception is that atheists want to kill God, when less then a handful actually desire this.
Atheists are atheists for several reasons. Some feel that God would not allow the world and his children, us to kill eachother and devestate this world as we have, so they feel that such a sick minded being couldn't exist. They don't want to believe that something could be so cruel to let its creations suffer. Some feel that God has simply abandoned us for other worlds and see no reason to worship something that is no longer here. There are also atheists who seek the truth, they neither believe in God, or disbelieve in God. They want to find the truth out there if he is or is not real they simply want to know.
A common misunderstanding is that all atheists are fiercly intolerant of other races and religions. In reality, few atheists are that intolerant. In fact most atheists are more accepting of others than most religious people.
A lot of people choose atheism believing religion is a root of evil, having caused countless wars and billions of deaths for no reason throughout all of time. For the most part, atheists do not try and shove their beliefs onto others, unless someone trys to put their religion and beliefs onto them first
Lance armstrong believes if there was a God he would have two balls. He is an atheist who feels abandoned and hurt.
About 80% of all the wars in human history have been caused by conflicting religious views, not one has been by an atheist.
