Argent Metal

Originally innovated by the experimentation of Mick Gordon in the Wolfenstein and Killer Instinct franchises, the most commonly agreed upon point of inception was when he created the Soundtrack for DOOM 2016. This can be attributed to the fact that he was tasked to "Create Music like Nobody has ever heard before" when tasked with composing and developing sound design techniques.

Through what is considered by some to be a 'happy accident' and others a display of technical brilliance in terms of music production - the culmination of factors has lead to probably the most influential movements in Modern Metal. Post-release of DOOM Eternal, the popularity of both DOOM and it's soundtracks skyrocketed and many artists sought out to decode and replicate many of the sound design techniques used.

YouTuber and Composer Geoffrey Day saw a great deal of success in creating Video Game covers in the style of DOOM; with the term 'Argent Metal' originating from a YouTube Community post in which he polled his subscribers on what they thought this new genre should be called.

Stylistic wise, the genre is generally defined by the extreme meshing of Electronic Sound Design with the Writing of Modern Metal music. It is a common misconception that Guitars are the defining factor of this genre when really, any aggressively distorted set of frequencies (or Atonal non-frequencies)from a controllable sound source often suffices.

Person 1: Hey man, have you heard about Argent Metal?
Person 2: Yeah!! I've heard there's a really awesome online community dedicated to making it!

Metal Head

A metal Head is anyone who listens to, and loves metal music. Sub-genres are not a factor. Clothing is not a factor. Whether you hate everything is not a factor. Whether you just like the older metal bands, or the newer ones doesn't matter either. To be a fucking metal head, all you have to fucking do is love metal music. Thats fucking it.

Me: i fucking love metal!
Someone else: he's a metal head!

Speed Metal

Speed Metal is not Thrash Metal. Many confuse the two genres. Speed Metal started in the late 70's with bands like Judas Priest and Riot. It's mainly a faster version of traditional heavy metal. while Thrash has a strong hardcore punk influence. I read somewhere someone was saying Megadeth is speed metal. Not True! Speed Metal and Thrash Metal are two completely different genres. While Thrash influenced the more extreme genres, Speed Metal is typically considered more traditional and was around for quite a few years before thrash.

power metal

A form of metal. Power Metal takes its roots from 80's metal bands such as Iron Maiden, Manowar, and Dio. Power Metal usually employs the use of guitar and vocal harmonies, with the vocals in almost every case being sung cleanly (one excpetion is Demoniac, which is Blackened Power). Drummers in this genre must be very adept with double-bass pedals, for they are almost constantly using them.
Being a very melodic style of metal, Power Metal is very intricate and difficult to write. It is one of the most difficult genres of metal to play, with Progressive (and Neoclassical) being possibly more difficult.
Lyrics commonly found in Power Metal are based around mythology, elves, war, greed, weaponry (most commonly swords), brotherhood, horses, magic, demons, dragons, and other fantasy-based topics. This makes Power Metal a perfect choice for D&D players (sadly, I am one) and people who enjoy fantasy novels.

Other bands play, Manowar KILLS!

sludge metal

Unlike how Dnite described it, sludge is NOT doom and stoner metal, sludge is unique from those two genres of music. but takes a lot of influence from them. sludge builds upon doom metal, by adding highly distorted guitars and vocals reminiscent of hardcore punk.(yelled, or shrieked, rather than sung or growled) Often mixing in slight blues influences as well. Has a sort of fuzzy sound, with often very melancholic lyrics.(lyrics about drugs, are not uncommon). Dnite did get one thing right, tho, sludge metal does take high influence from early bands like the melvins.

Such sludge metal bands include bongzilla(mix of sludge and stoner), fistula, crowbar, rwake, and electric wizard.

Metal Detecting

Dorky looking, but an awesome hobby where you find coins and jewelry while beach combing.

Metal Detecting. It's only March and already this year I have found $18 in change, 3 silver rings, 2 14K gold rings and a diamond and sapphire engagement ring that I recently sold for $875.00. Yay me!

pedal to the metal

When the accelerator is pushed so far it cant move any more- in some cars it hits a metal bar, or the end of the footwell (which is hopefully made of metal).

Hence the term pedal to the metal. Obviously if you have the accelerator all the way fowards youre gonna be gathering speed...or going fairly fast.

Crap! Cops, 6 o'clock, pedal to the metal Jerry!
