Greenday is just a band doing what they do best, make music. I'm not much into the punk, pop-punk scene so I wouldn't know their music too well, but this change in music for them sounds normal, a change in lifestyle might have meant a change in lyrics for them. As far as the being "sell-outs", I don't care, they're using their talents to make money so quit bitching about it.

Shitty bunch of black hair- dyed nerds, who couldn't get anywhere with their previous, more original material, so they began ripping off the lessser-known Australian rock band The living end (who were around way before Green day!!). Green day soon resorted to stealing pretty much every living end song produced and took advantage of their already aquired fame to make it look like they thought of it all by themselves. Listen to any living end song and you will see what i mean (sure enough you will be able to find a green day song which is sickingly similar to that of an already released living end song!) Any Australian or brit will be able to suppport this.

Craptastic 'punk' band, worshipped by teenyboppers and those with just plain bad taste in music alike. No, I'm not one of those people that judges them just by their popularity in the mainstream. Billie Joe Armstrong's voice sounds like some poor bastard that just got castrated. The riffs are boring, and repetetive. The lyrics are alright sometimes, though. As far as being the 'best live band ever'... Watch Metallica's 'Live shit', then get back to me on that one.

Punk band from Oakland, CA that are one of the best from there genre. they were formed in 1987 under the name Sweet Children, they released a few EPs and in 1990, they released 1039 smoothed out slappy hours, it was on an indie label and didn't do so well, but in 1992, they released Kerplunk! which sold Gold, which was rare for a indie album. After that they were signed to reprise records, and released Dookie in 1994.Dookie was very famous,and spawned 4 hit singles, and sold diamond(over 10 mil copies).a year later they released Insomniac which was darker than Dookie but still a hit, although it only sold 2x Platinum. later in 1997 they released there 5th album Nimrod which spawned Good Riddance (Time of your life) a very huge hit song.they released Warning in 2000, international superhits in 2001, and shenaniginas, there b-side album, and there popularity went down. until American Idiot came out in 2004, it held there first Hot 100 singles, and sold 5x Platinum (There 2nd best selling record) after a long hiatus from music they returned with 21st century breakdown in 2009,which has sold gold so far. Hopefully Green Day will go down as one of the best bands ever...Green Day is also a day where you smoke weed the whole day,which is where Green Day got there name from.

An anti-American punk rock band, with good sound, but lyrics that make fun of a country that pays them to badmouth it. Their income is based off of a hypocritical irony. I would like to seem them go to Cuba, or Saddam Hussein's Iraq, and make fun of THEIR respective countries.
They would literally be arrested by the military and probably shot. America is about as good as it gets, people.
Green Day has great sound, but sends a very hypocritical, anti-American message.

You guys are retards (except the people that had definitions similair to this one). Green Day ARE in fact sell outs, they only made the American Idiot album to appeal to all the poser pop-punk faggots out there. If you think Green Day is punk, your very wrong, they were somewhat punk at one point (in their earlier days). They used to be good, but now they are pop-punk faggoty teenybopper sell outs. If you want to hear real punk, go download some Aus Rotten, Anti-Flag, the Casualties, the Addicts, and many more, mostly underground punk rock bands that sing about true politics and not just saying "American Idiot".

Probably the best punk band in the world. Sings about everything there is to be angry about. Plus Billie Joe Armstrong is extremely hot.
