San Gabriel

A city located in Los Angeles County. The whole thing is based on a failure of a mission that was built in the 1700s. Plans to turn the mission into a tourist attraction failed, and now it just rots there. 49% of the population is Asian, 31% is Hispanic, and the rest are all White. Everyone hangs out at the Santa Anita Mall on weekends. There are several elementary schools and high schools, but only one middle school: Jefferson Middle School. Most kids go to Jefferson Middle School and then Gabrielino High School. In Jefferson, the kids hang out at the ARCO gas station, which serves more junk food than gas after school. Once you've advanced to Gabrielino, you get to hang out at a little strip full of Asian shops. There are plenty of ricers, tabs, tmbs (Hispanic version of Tabs, completely with babydoll clothes and hoodies and Jansport backpacks), gangstas, yaps, and even a few scene kids (oddly, Albino or Asian mostly) lurking around this city.

As of the census of 2000, there were 39,804 people, 12,587 households, and 9,566 families residing in San Gabriel. The population density was 3,721.2/kmยฒ (9,639.3/miยฒ). There were 12,909 housing units at an average density of 1,206.8/kmยฒ (3,126.2/miยฒ). The racial makeup of the city was 33.40% White, 1.06% African American, 0.83% Native American, 48.91% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 12.36% from other races, and 3.34% from two or more races. 30.71% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 12,587 households out of which 35.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.1% were married couples living together, 15.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.0% were non-families. 18.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.10 and the average family size was 3.52.

In the city the population was spread out with 23.5% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 33.3% from 25 to 44, 21.1% from 45 to 64, and 13.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.5 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $41,791, and the median income for a family was $45,287. Males had a median income of $31,642 versus $29,302 for females. The per capita income for the city was $16,807. 15.9% of the population and 12.5% of families were below the poverty line. 21.4% of those under the age of 18 and 11.5% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.

San Francisco

San Francisco means so many things to so many people--a superlative in terms of the kinds of activity and diversity engendered in the most beautiful city in the world.

Affectionately known by locals as "The City" by the bay, it's unique topography and eclectic skyline lends a vertical appearance to a dynamic landscape, containing the world's most treasured examples of architecture--Transamerica Pyramid, Bank of America Center, Ferry Building, Golden Gate Bridge, et al.

Akin to Paris and London, San Francisco offers something special for those living--or visiting--in the area, leaving an indelible impression to come back for more: Financial District, Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz Island, Union Square, Chinatown, Japantown, etc.

I left my heart in San Francisco. And I can't wait to go back.

San Sharp

1. The ghost of a girl. It is said that she was out running one day and was hit by a car. She now wanders around Western American towns, holding up her ipod and searching for an internet connection.

There are many variations of this myth, the most popular being Lillia Monique from France or Bella Sonia, the vampire girl of Italy.

2. A person who, when they go out running, is hard or impossible to track down. They often only run to impress someone.

"I swear I saw San out running yesterday!"
"Yeah, right!"

"Amanda's such a San Sharp- she only goes out running to show off to Mark!"
