A style of music that combines 70s stoner rock with hard rock and metal guitar riffs and beats, beard metal began its rise to popularity somewhere around 2005 and has only grown thanks to bands like Mastodon, Turbonegro and Valient Thorr. Galloping metal breakdowns and their masterful use of the twin- guitar melodies (ala Thin Lizzy and Iron Maiden) make this genre of music a welcome breath of fresh air for hard rock and metal fans who have watched their beloved music drift into obscurity over the years as rock became a watered-down commodity for record labels in search of the almighty dollar, producing bands like Nickleback and other alternative radio nonsense. Most of these bands have at least one or two members with beards, but a beard is not necessarily required.
Beard Metal bands include: Valient Thorr, Priestess, Mastodon, Turbonegro, High on Fire, Early Man, The Sword, Fu Manchu, Bison, Baroness, Black Cobra.

a chick whom listens to metal. usualy has long hair of the natural color, altho often dyed rather strange colors.
Tends to wear band tees,and flannel. no matter the size.
and prefers jeans and chords to skirts and kaki (yuck!)
They usualy will play an instriment like guitar or drums. and is very intrested in the music they listen to and will defend it nomatter what the cause is.
Metal chicks are very hard to come about, because most chicks now are trying to be emo or scene. This means when you find a metal chick, she is a true metal chick.
she will listen to:slayer, anthrax, testament, old metallica, iron maiden iced earth etc.

An emerging genre of metal music which takes elements of post-rock and puts them into a metal context. Somewhat connected to sludge metal.
Russian Circles and Isis are examples of post-metal acts.

A form of Music Snob that believes metal is the only music worth listening to, and that he/she was the first to ever know of it. Usually busy spending their time arguing about what is metal and what is not, and why their taste in music is better than yours.

Metal that relates to elves, swords, epic battles, fairies, and other fantasy themes. Often recorded in Scandinavian forests, and upstate New York with the aid of elf metalheads who play the violin a little too well. Afionados of elf-metal can be identified by their dragonfroce t-shirts, loneliness and pointy ears. It is perhaps the coolest subgenre of metal ever created.
