Black Americans call themselves this today because they're smart enough to know that it's just a word and no longer has any power over them and now they own the word that used to own them.

A word that most negros use as much as they can (when talking between them or rapping), while forbidding non-black people to use it, under the threat of exerting savage, uncivilized violence against them. Which is obviously racist because if they really deemed the word to be so offensive, they wouldn't abuse its use as much.
