THE INDIE OATH:
a) thou shalt not spread the indie-greatness. 'Tis our indie-little-secret.
b)thou shalt not own a single mainstream album. If you have to, at least only buy but 1 mainstream article.
c) thou shalt not flaunt thy 'indieness'. It's bad publicity and sets a bad example.
d) thou shalt not, upon swearing into an indie life, drink STARBUCKS coffee. This is a mainstream establishment, and it is a sin. You may, however, buy the bottled drinks that Starbucks does not manufacture.
By refusing Starbucks (and any other popular establishment), you are refusing to be mainstream. So go buy some indie coffee.
e) Just because you find an artist you've never heard of on iTunes, and other people have bought some Les Savy Fav or Frou Frou along with it, does not necessarily mean that it is indie. Do not fall for this! iTunes is trying to trick you.

a girl whoes listens to music that isnt mainstream, usually knows about the latest bands before anyone else, has a unique clothing style that doesnt level out to any specific catagory (vintage,prep,emo...) an indie chic can be found with a colorful variety of books, movies, music. Indie chics are witty and sarcastic and may have jokes that dumbfound you for many minutes as you decide wether it was an insult or not, but indie chics are considered cool and down to earth, usually enlightened to some degree about the world there in and want to take the time to listen to what they want and not what everyone is pressuring them to do.
the character Lane Kim from Gilmore Girls is an indie chic.

Pretty much an indie hipster who enjoys outdoor sports. They still have the style and the attitude but they wake up on Saturday mornings to go biking or hiking or kayaking...
Natives are usually in San Francisco or Seattle - rarely see them in New York.

Stop being ignorant. There is no DEFINITION of an indie kid. There are no specific guidelines, requirements, or strict definitive characteristics. Indie is a culture, a state of mind, and a never-ending quest for good music.
Indie is an appreciation of beauty, which is defined by one's own standards. The indie kid's concept of beauty usually does not involve mainstream music because popular music is often superficial, employing very basic chords and melodies, and the lyrics are rarely deep or symbolic. Indie people sense this lack of artistic depth in popular culture, thus seeking depth in alternate, more creative styles of clothing and music.
Although this observation does not apply to all indie kids, there seems to be a slight trend in the intellectual capacity of those involved in Indie culture. Many indie kids enjoy critical and analytical thinking, abstract ideas, and learning new things, often discussing "nerdy" topics among themselves. This is probably because intellect, creative ability and depth are seemingly linked, likely due to how one's brain has developed based on genetics and exposure to society, and which areas of the brain are innately most active.
Only "indie kid" stereotype: indie kids hang with other indie kids.
