Apparently considered by the rest of Virginia as "uncultured", obtuse, and border-line elitist. As for the elitism, this author can assure you as an elitist themselves it is not, and far from it. As for the cultural aspect of the equation it seems quite odd since there is a high content of ethnicities and nationalities residing in Northern Virginia. However, as the majority of the adults living in the suburbs of NoVa commute to Washington D.C., a government and urban area it is not as "Southern" as the rest of VA. Although, as the aforementioned population is very diverse, it does consist of a melting pot of culture, and therefore are more tolerant of a global community acting as one. Moving on, since Northern Virginia has lots of "noveau riche" folk (as said by someone living in a Southern part of Virginia) and highly paid government employees, it seems as if although cordial and when talking to strangers worry-free of politics, religion, business, et cetera; they are in fact quite knowledgeable of at least one of the topics. As for wanting to be part of the "North", this simply is not true as the Civil War is over.
I work in DC for the gov't but live in the suburbs of Northern Virginia,

Virginia beach does have bad gang problems. But the city has ben tyring to cover it up.

The most affluent and educated region in the nation. Generally refers to the Virginia portion of the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area including the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun as well as the independent cities of Alexandria, Falls Church, Fairfax, Manassas, and Manassas Park. Several other outlying counties and cities can also be included such as Stafford and Fauquier Counties and the City of Fredricksburg. Having 2.6 million residents, it is the most populous region in Virginia, the Washington Metropolitan Area, and the Baltimore-Washington Combined Statistical Area. There are literally almost no ghettos or real crime. Do not move to this area if you make under a $100,000 salary or you will be considered poor. It is generally the Beverley Hills of the East Coast because it is not uncommon for 16 year olds to be driving brand new $60,000 BMWs and Mercedes. Mostly everyone is white and has everything they want. The region does not have international status as the most rich and educated due to surrounding jurisdictions trying to keep NoVA under wraps so it cannot become overpowering. People from Northern Virginia are literally better than everyone else.

A wannabe southern state that's basically Mississippi part deux.
Even though West Virginia is located at a fairly northern latitude (the northermost part of WV is at the same latitude as NYC), due to the accent and mannerisms of it's people and it's odd geography, it might as well be a part of Mississippi.

A ridiculously wealthy suburban community in Northern Virginia where $500,000 houses are crappy and are the houses that the poor people live in. It is within 20 miles of 4 highschool, 6 elementary schools, and about 6 middle schools. People who grew up or live in Virginia Run are rich, usually have 3 car garages, own at least 1 lexus and a Mercedes SUV for fun, and there are no houses with less than 5 huge bedrooms. Virginia Runners think that London Towne is the "ghetto." We always get stuck in traffic, and everyone who lives in Virginia Run has goten a ticket on Pleasant Valley Road at some point in their life in their BMW. The worst crime commited in Virginia Run is a 10 year old ringing your doorbell then running behind a bush to see your reaction. IN virginia run, there are several commitees of bored housewives who determine what color ur shutters and doors can be, the way your garden and yard can look, and what kind of swing set you may have in your back yard. Basically, Virginia Run is where the rich people who hate southern virginia live.
I live in the second wealthiest county in the nation, Fairfax County, and drive my lexus to school everyday, because i am from virginia run. My shutters match my door, and my garden got yard of the month 3 times in a row.

The northern portion of the state of Virginia, bordering DC and Maryland. As evidenced in this site, we are disliked greatly by the rest of Virginia because this area is not full of rednecks and hicks like southern virginia, or hillbillies like West Virginia. We have some of the most affluent counties in the US, with Loudon and Fairfax always competing for the number one spot. Full of ethnic diversity and educated people from all over the world who shape the area we live in. No, we are NOT proud southerners, because there isn't anything remotely southern about us. I have encountered very few southern accents here, and most were from people who lived down south. I am proud to live in such an area.
You say you want Northern Virginia to become its own state, but our taxes are all spent on YOU, southern virginia. What on earth would happen to you without us, besides becoming a state akin to Kentucky or Mississippi? Face it, you NEED us. So please, please stop bitching.

Nothern Virginia's playground. Where the north sends their kids to college and visits frequently to the amusements parks and the beaches.
