no 'call waiting!!'
in ancient times when one were 'desperate' to get hold of someone, there existed a torture some indicator someone was using the phone, (or had it off the 'hook' to 'duck' your ass!!) called a 'BUSY SIGNAL' (or 'reorder tone")
this busy signal still exists to this day! among all the modern technology that does everything but 'take you off'. it could truly be maddening if one were 'desperate' to get through to someone. ('hungry' teens, emergencies, etc!)
seems pretty antique to me, why not disco music or something? -at least the ABILITY to 'dump' the blatting!!
i guess call waiting is where we're 'railroaded' to now!!

1) Anoter one of many terms designating a type of fart. The "blat" is designated by an explosive blast of rectal gas. While the sound is ferocious, the smell is usually deadly. However the duration (of both the blat and the people standing around the blat-ter) is very brief (pun intended).
2) The type of fart typically associated with "Ocky" and "Clutcher" in the less-well-known comic series of the same name.
3) Designating one of the the two most obnoxious sounds of the tuba. In this context, the term is often spelled "blatt" and associated with "the other" obnoxious sound of the tuba, the "woop". Often the two sounds are grouped together (e.g. "blatting and wooping").
1) We were playing cards when all at once... BLAT! Grodie let one go, and the game was immediately called off.

Check to see that you don't have a worn valve in your trumpet. I'm starting to hear a lot of blats.

A term originally used when playing hacky sack, or footbag. It occurs when one player deliberatly powers the hacky at another player in the hope that they will lose control.
