gothic

Lately the word gothic has evolved into a classic stereotype for people dressing in black listening to death metal and black metal. It may mean any number of things.

1. Pertaining to the Goths, a Germanic Tribe.

2. From a Renaissance perspective. It pretty much means "rough" if used in that context. If you were to take classical and make it the complete opposite. There were different periods of gothic art and architecture around that time. You'll find most of it in Europe.

3. A species of noctuid moth.

4. A gothic novel. It was a British literary genre from the late 18th century to the 19th century.

5. In the late 20th century it became what people use now. Meaning "dark" and "gloomy." It developed into a stereotype from the music goth rock. Now the people are characterized as wearing all black, into things that may be considered more abstract and darker than what is normal, and listening to various types of metal and darkwave.

6. Sometimes associated with Satanism, though the two are very often not related.

Put plainly, it has been taken from an art form into something that is used to confine and label people in one group. It's become one of the many labels such as "emo", "gangster", and "scene."

Anne Rice is a famous gothic artist.

gothic

1. A person who has sincerely immersed themselves in a stoic and depressingly good literature, is rather solemn and is gothic because of a state of mind not the clothes, black nails, or music.
2. Some jerkoff who wants to be definition number one but is just a retarded teenager confuzed by puberty and taking it out on the world, catagorizing themselves, and shopping at the all-mighty evil, Hot Topic... because they think its all about how they dress and what they listen to.

For definition 1-
The gothic culture was always been looked down upon due to a lack of social acceptance
For Definition 2-
"Dude. check out the new clothes and lipstick i got from hot topic. i am so gothic" <--should be shot.

gothic

Of or relating to goth and the subculture thereof. Older adherents of the subculture (it's been around since the 1970s, people) prefer to call themselves "gothic" rather than "goths". The term is reminiscent of a style of medieval architecture and intended to bring to mind images of gargoyles, stone arches and funerary monuments.

There is no "gothic movement". Get over it.

gothic

to me gothic isnt a just a style of clothing it is a state of mind also. im so sick of people saying your goth if you wear black for a whole week stright!! you prepy poeple need to get over your selves and stop talking a bout people to make yourself feel better. you only do it because you world isnt as good as everyone elses and you try to make other peoples worse than yours. you don't get it some people get sick of it and go home and kill there selves because you made the feel unwanted.
now back to gothic to me it is a state of mind not a life style being goth if you are doesn't mean you worship the devil it doesn't have to mean you worship god either it doesn't mean you worship anyone it means you like dark things and that you enjoy life the way you want to live it !!
you know people can't bow to your every weem. people now-a-days need to tend to to there selves first then everyone elses. i am a VERY MAD 13 year old girl tried of the worl and its stupid fits. i am told that i am more grown up then most adults by other adults that i am . it also scares me to know that i a 13 year old girl seems to be more mature than most adults. now sometimes i am my a wee bit childish but that is normaly when i am with my friends i get a little out of hand but who dosent.
my real prefrence of the word gothic is someone whom is their selves lives life to the fullest and is not afraid to laugh out loud!!!!!

at the moment i cant thik of any kind of gothic example

gothics

"Gothic" is an adjective, not a noun. Therefore, a group of people can not be "gothics". "Goths", perhaps (though not likely given how little people know about the subject, especially people who refer to themselves as "gothic"). Similarly, "emo" (which, by the way, has nothing to do with Gothic anything) is short for "emotional", which, also, is an adjective, not a noun. Calling people "gothics" or "emos" just makes you look like an uneducated jackass.

"Look at the group of gothics or other adjectives! I need to wear a helmet when I leave the house."
