1) Taken literally, the US Patent and Trademark Office defines it as "a word, phrase, symbol, and/or design that identifies and distinguishes the source of the goods of one party from those of others."
2) Sometimes satirically added to the end of a word or phrase, to characterize it as overused, a loaded statement, disingenuous or pretentious.

A TM is short for Trouble Maker, In the car business this is to describe people who show up on the lot with absolutly no intention of buying and to just cause trouble.
Those fucking TM's made me waste 2 fucking hours with them, I knew they were TM but the owner made me go say hi.
