The Grand Algorithm

The Grand Algorithm is a phrase in reference of search algorithms used to discover new information.

"Searching for boots and being presented with un-related information"

*searches cranberries* can't wait to listen to this album *get's results for cranberry recipes*

Well, I guess The Grand Algorithm willed it

Heuristic Algorithm

A learning or discovering technique based on experience. Or, a way to try something new (like a new position), based on what you already know. If you know what I mean...

-"Sheila and I are going to go work out some serious Heuristic Algorithms tonight."

-"I find this solution to your Heuristic Algorithm really painful."

-"You should try Dave's Heuristic Algorithm! It's got some really intense solutions!"

Engineers algorithm

The engineers algorithm is a simple set of instructions on what to do in a certain situation. For example if something is not ment to move but it is moving use duct tape. If it is still moving you have not used enough duct tape. On the other hand if something is ment to move but it isn't moving, use WD40. If it is still not moving used more WD40 and continuously hit it with a hammer until it moves.

Person 1: " I don't know why this isn't working, any ideas".

Person 2: " are you talking about your wife not getting out of bed or the bearing seizing up. Use the engineers algorithm for the bearing. And promise me you won't drown your wife with WD40 and hit her with a hammer."

algorithm anxiety

For algorithms that aim to give or tell you something you want based on a person's input data, such as likes, shares, interactions. Examples include, social media ads, feed algorithms, song recommendation algorithms.

Algorithm anxiety is when a person gets anxious about their inputs to the algorithm as it might give the algorithm the wrong idea.
and/or
When a person is anxious about what the output of the algorithm is, as they may feel it's 'not them' or how they might be manipulated by it.

"Shit, I accidentally liked that song, that's just ruined my algorithm. I'm so anxious now to like songs I don't actually like, I have algorithm anxiety."

"I keep getting ads for these boots, should I buy them? do I like them? or are they just being drilled into me from the algorithm? what if these clothes s I bough were a product of the algorithm and not actually my decisions?! OK I have algorithm anxiety now. "

Algorithm Pimp

A marketer who makes content optimized purely for digital algorithms, instead of their audience's interests.

Devoid of substance and nuance, Algorithm Pimp's content usually features generic 101 advice, platitudes, truisms, Top 10 listicles, and whatever topic is currently trending in the world.

In SEO circles, Algorithm Pimps can be found on backlink farms, buying guest posts no one reads, promoting content that is SEO'd to the point where it's barely readable by a human being.

On social media, Algorithm Pimps run engagement pods, publish content at the exact same time every day, and tend to use bright color profile pictures to identify other Algorithm Pimps.

The fear of angering Zuckerberg's algorithms stops them from developing brand differentiation or an authentic point-of-view. Instead, they religiously follow best practices dictated by the channel they're marketing on.

Algorithm Pimps are usually strong performers on vanity metrics that don't quite translate to business results.

Due to their robot-like nature, Algorithm Pimps are most likely candidates to eventually be replaced by AI.

MARIO: Twitter has 237M users. But 99% of marketers don't follow the right people. Here are the Top 20 Marketers you should follow today. A THREAD 🧵

CALVIN: Yawn. Another algorithm pimp on my feed. Blocked and muted.
