date

A lost art, virtually nonexistent in the 21st Century. Replaced by casual meetings for lunch or coffee where the bill is dutch and parties wear jeans.

We're going on a date, so he's picking me up at 8:00.

not-dating

A close friend that you are essentially dating but will freak out when the word "dating" is referred to.

This term applies even if the two people both have feelings for each other, and both know it.

One or more of them is uncomfortable about using the word "dating".

Instead all of the synonyms are used instead. terms like: seeing you, going out, getting together, enjoy your company, hang out with, go out to dinner, walk the dog, together.

The other person will NEVER admit to you that you two are in fact dating. Not even after months or years.

Bob and Debbie have been not-dating for three years.

Every one they know thinks they are couple and a good match. But they are just not-dating.

Bob and Debbie usually not-date several weekends and evenings a month.

dating

The process of wasting time with another one is infatuated or sexually attracted to, usually of the opposite sex. Most of the time, this takes the form of typical 'small talk', boring activities such as going out to dinner or to the movies, et cetera. This is usually to distract each other from the reality that they have nothing on their own, though usually women are more oblivious to this due to cultural norms. In real relationships, this can just be a form of killing time, because it's not really needed for any meaningful interaction. Typically, this lack of deeper bond is the reason why relationships split up, but the distractions keep it going for awhile so it's a big painful shitstorm when one or both parties realizes that fairyland is a fake place and that you have to WORK for a REAL relationship.

Most 'dating' is highly predictable and a complete waste of time.

Dating

When you date someone you trust them. It is more than just hanging out with someone who happens to be of the opposite gender. It means you like and feel a connection with someone and they do so of you. You also enjoy talking to this person more and spend more time with them. You date someone because they’re special to you and you feel a connection or a bond with that person.
