open-loop

A term borrowed from engineering meaning that something is uncontrolled. In engineering, feedback is fed back into the input of a system to keep the output under control.

When a person has nobody to check their behavior, they are said to be "operating open-loop."

My kid was running open-loop at home while I was in Asia. Surprised the dog was still alive when I got back.

Or

Getting lost and stubbornly refusing to ask for directions, thus resulting in aimlessly driving around until you accidentally arrive at your destination.

Friend Loop

The common phenomenon of discovering a chain of Facebook friends that starts with you and moves through strangers' friends lists that then loop back to you again.
Reinforces the "small world" feeling.

My co-worker wanted me to cross-friend his disc-golf buddy. Found out that he is friends with someone that is also friends with my wife's best friend in college. He started a Friend Loop
