The Teens who aren't mainstream, listen to Indie and Alternative music, no defining clothing or style, can be anyone and look like anything. Ranging from hippies to social outcasts. Most people have a very narrow-minded veiw on Indie Kids because they don't necesserily like their music so they tend to make generalised and insulting comments about their clothing and what they do.
"Dude, is that guy listening to Faker?" "Yeah, he must be one of those Indie Kids"

A guy who falls under the criteria of being 'Indie'
Usually sports the long, messed up hair that looks as if they haven't bothered to fix it, which is the style that they've been trying to achieve in the first place.
Fashion wise, coats and scarves are often worn, with the ocassional trilby hat here and there. Do not forget the jeans, the most common cut are the skinny legs, but sometimes they are not quite skinny legs but more of a straight cut.
Indie guys are the hottest guys, but please never EVER mistake them for being the same as emo.
Indie Girl: Whoa, check out that guy...
Onlooker: That guy? He looks like he just woke up, the sun's out and he's wearing a scarf!
Indie Girl: He's so Indie.
Onlooker: You like emos?
Indie Girl: I'm sick of people mistaking Indies for Emos, firstly Emo will never catch up to Indie's greatness and sense off individuality and secondly, Indie guys don't go off putting eyeliner on and cutting themselves whenever the world doesnt go their way.
Onlooker: ...

a film often made on a low, almost bare bones budget(outside the studio system), that is heralded by the underground(read: hipsters)for its usually "new, fresh, and daring" take on a number of issues such as; gay life, sex, gay sex, teen angst, gay teen angst, etc.
Often seen as pretentious by anyone not cultured enough to understand the "gravitas of the subject matter"
Best paired with a post viewing discussion at a local (read: unincorporated) coffee shop.
Often leaves you with more questions than answers.
Dude they're projecting that new INDIE FILM onto the side of a building tonight! It's gonna be so rad! I'm bringing the Pabst!

Someone who claims to be a massive fan of the big British guitar bands (plus The Strokes) despite only really knowing their greatest hits. Two years ago they were into The Kooks, Kaiser Chiefs and Dizzee Rascal.
They all idolise Noel Gallagher, have some fascination with Mod culture and all claim how they wish they were from Manchester and/or alive in the 1960s. They also think that owning the best of The Jam and The Who, and wearing Fred Perry makes them a Mod.
A lot have Tumblr accounts and upload black and white pictures of all their favourite bands just to show how Indie they are.
Because a fair few listen to Indie bands from the 70s and 80s such as The Stone Roses, The Smiths and Joy Division, they're so retro and individual compared to their peers who are all apparently Justin Bieber fans, despite how there are hundreds of Topman/Topshop clad poseurs just like them on Twitter.
The great irony here is that despite how they clearly think they're unique and proper Indie, their musical taste doesn't stretch beyond bands that have huge critical acclaim and have sold thousands upon thousands of records.
Oh yeah, they also tweet about how they hate mainstream music, as if the likes of Oasis and Arctic Monkeys are obscure cult acts who haven't released some of the biggest selling records in UK history.
Indie wannabe's twitter bio: Oasis - The Stone Roses - Arctic Monkeys - The Libertines - The Smiths - Miles Kane - The Jam - The Strokes - The Beatles - The Jam - The Courteeners - Joy Division - The Who - The 60s - Mod Culture - Mancs
Person: "So you're a big Indie fan, what do you think of Indie bands like My Bloody Valentine, Pavement, Super Furry Animals and The Flaming Lips?"
Indie Wannabe: "WTF?! They're not Indie! They don't sell their shirts in Topman or dress like football casuals! Now fuck off, I'm trying to listen to Not Nineteen Forever like a true individual Indie kid!"

An indie kid is a young person who likes to listen to, emulate the style of and attend shows performed by obscure, independant label music bands. The irony of the indie kid is obviously that his or her style is now popular among many youths and therefore not really independant. Anyway, defining a person by their tastes alone is stupid.
regular joe: "hey what are you listening to?"
indie kid: "I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness"
regular joe: "what???? what are you talking about?"
indie kid: "it's the name of the band"
regular joe: "oh haha...i've never heard of them"
indie kid: *smiles gleefully with the feeling of having obscure taste in music*

A person who exclusively listens to "independent" or "underground" music, and then proceeds to shut out any music style that does not adhere to their own strict principles. Often they will not associate with and indeed look down upon those who listen to anything remotely commercial.
To spot an indie fascist, head to your nearest locally owned record store, pretentious coffee shop, or arthouse bar and look for someone wearing a scarf, thick-rimmed glasses, and possibly women's jeans and a beanie. A beard may also be present on some varieties (particularly the northwest indie fascist).
Don't bother arguing about music with them, your tastes are obviously inferior.
I thought Rob was going to tear my head off when I put that Godsmack CD in, that guy's a straight up indie fascist!
