A lame excuse for music. inspired by people with soul and talent in the 70's now has made itself into a monster, it is corrupting our youth,including me at one point, until the rock saved my soul, but thats a different story. i dont care what you say, ive listened to this 'music' and i see that it is garbage. This cannot even come close to the word poetry. sure there are very few diamonds in the rough,VERY few. all the rappers that are praised as heroes in today's society, including the "almighty" 2pac, are nothing but talentless low class thugs. and if you tell me that not all their music is about guns sex and degredation of women. well,from experience i can tell you that about 80% of it is. I think it is a pretty sad existance if thats all you come up with and still you call yourself a musician. you say there are rappers with talent i agree, but there not the ones the kids are listening to, i guess im considered a kid to, but i escaped the brainwashing. i see this as a fact because i see my little brother whos only 12 and sister whos 14, 2 years younger than me. my brother is starting to use slang terms, and my sister is hearing all these vile lyrics and thinking its fucking cool. these rappers glorify being a "gangster" as so glamorous, so when you tell me to just "not listen to it if i dont like it" well its hard when its coming into my home and fucking with their impressionable minds. It pisses me off even more to know theres nothing i can do about it. Rap is the single biggest lame excuse for music in history of mankind, it also makes me smile when i know that rap is a fad, it will go away as quickly as it came people will realize how fucking stupid it is. And, like always, the throne will be taken over by its rightful master-rock n' roll. But in the meantime, tupac biggie 50cent g-unit three six mafia lilwyte jay-z and all you other talentlentless piles of waste, stay the fuck out of my home.

A type of music that used to be worth listening to. Back in the late '70's and early '80's when rap first started, it would have some meaning to it. One of the all time greats is KRS-One For everyone who likes old school rap, definitely listen to "Hold." it's a great song that doesn't have anything to do with slapping bitches and getting his money. -__- rap nowadays sucks. Everyone shouldn't listen to new rap, they should listen to the older stuff. Please.

the reason that so many people are against rap music is because the way that it is portrayed in the media. MTV and BET keep playing rap videos by: 50 cent, young jeezy, unk, lil jon, soulja boy, and a bunch of other talentless losers that would never have been signed, if not for so many suburban wiggers loving that kind of stuff. you never hear alot of talented rappers on the radio, such as talib kweli, mos def, common, lupe fiasco, or nas. the closest you'll get to a talented brother in the rap game that even white kids will listen to is kanye west, and maybe chamillionaire (he is a very talented lyricist, especialy for a mainstream dirty south rapper). i dont get how rap music has started so many trends, like baggy clothes, giant golden chains, air force ones, and spinning rims, all of which look really stupid, especially when you see white 20 year olds with that shit. honestly without real hip hop, i might actually agree with the punk emo kids that think rap is nothing but ho's, guns, drugs, and cars.

man who actually knows what hes talking about: you both must be on crack. rap is much more than "clothes, money, and bitches". and no body really gives a damn about "shootin niggas up on the block" listen to rap that actually makes sense, has a message and a meaning, and maybe you'll learn to actually appreciate it.

Is actually good music as long as you listen to real rap and not Lil Wayne. Some say rap stands for Retards Attempting Poetry, but it's likely that the only 'rap' those people heard was T-pain or some shitty rap artist like him.

Rap is not music. It is people talking loudly to a repetative beat. Rappers usually have no talent, and that is not an opinion that is a fact.
consider this:
-Rappers usually buy beats from older rappers, or play them on cheesey keyboards.
-they do not play instruments
-they don't come up with a melody
so basically all they are are poets, poets with terrible taste in lyrics.
They are mostly sellouts, in that they advertise many products on tv, and endorse basketball teams. many of them also eat at shitty resteraunts like mcdonalds. they sing about who has the most hoes, or the better rhyming skillz or the most bling.
When rap was about the ghettos, it was much better. It was a way for poor intercity people to express their broken dreams and poverty/danger rittled life. now it's become about all the negative aspects, like money and hoes. they don't realize that money isn't everything,
and hoes are just in existance for straight people who cannot get layed.
The only good rappers (i can stand) are Snoop dogg and Kanye west.

Contrary to the belief of thousands of narrow minded teenagers, Rap is a legitimate form of music. Like any other genre of music, it can be both good or bad.
Rap is not always about drugs/sex/violence. That's mainly Gangsta rap. Saying Gangsta rap is representative of Hip hop in general is like saying that Death metal is representative of Rock.
So all in all, don't go saying stupid shit like "Retards Attempting Poetry" or "Rap is just missing a C". It's just fucking stupid. Go listen to some decent Hip-hop, Outkast being one example, before you make up your mind.
I listen to rap. I also listen to Rock, Grunge, Metal, Funk, Punk, Techno, Trip-hop, Reggae, Jazz, Electronica, and much more. Taste in music doesn't have to be exclusive.
