Posers are people who try to be accepted in a certain subculture by trying to act like one who is...and plainly just want to be stereotyped.

trendys who wear glittery tshirts saying 'the ramones' 'ac/dc' and 'the rolling stones' with their designer clothings, who the think they are cool even they its obvious they havent heard a single song by that bad.
she thinks so cool wearing a 'iron maiden' shirt with her D&G sunglasses, tis blates she listens to RnB, what a poser.

Anyone who tries to be like someone else just so they can fit in, don't even know what the hell they are doing, or just being dumbasses who can't tell the difference between pop and punk, black and white, or even frickin metal and r&b.

Casey is such a poser. He said that Finger Eleven are awful, yet he was dancing when their song "Paralyzer" was playing on the radio last Tuesday while Christine, Melissa, and I were making Halloween decorations for our Halloween party. And he had the nerve to call me a poser. At least I don't dance to music I don't like.

A person who is not as cool as they dress. Probably a person who was once carefree and happy then started to wear dark clothes and wear "skater clothes" in order to fit in. They also DO care what people think about them unlike what people may say.
Girl 1: UG look at that cute emo boy over their i wish i was freinds with him

A Poser is a total showoff! The difference between a person with talent and a poser is that the poser is just trying hard to appear talented for personal status gain and to further boost his/her ego (which is already so overinflated that they unknowingly make fools of themselves with their over exaggerated shows) whereas the person with talent is just doing their stuff... performing (in the purest sense of the word). And would perform well with or without a crowd but the poser only performs when there is a crowd. So I totally agree with most definitions here up to a point... that being that, 1. yes, posers are trying to show off but 2. no, they are not trying to imitate some culture punk goth or otherwise but instead would just do anything to attract attention to the point of making a total fool out of themselves, unlike someone who just dresses punk, goth, rad or whatever (even if they aren't) but just felt like dressing that way to express themselves a little differently.
At the drumming contest that first guy really knew his stuff and played so well yet didn't make a big deal about it, but that second guy only barely passed as drummer yet he thought he was brilliant and didn't even realize he was making such a fool of himself... what a poser!
